I was just looking at the job posting for a Rampie with AC in YVR. Noticed that it only pays $10.24/hr. I am pretty dam sure the Westjet guys (Turn Around Crew aka TAC) in YYC make close to that if not more starting off. I knew they made at least $10/hr starting off a few years ago....
I put my hands together for AC actually placing the wage online. But from my experience AC has counter people making just as much money as WESTJET managament people! Scary that the wages are this close... and that low for a person at AC in YVR!!! So maybe I read that wrong, maybe it is a contractor company....
Just curious what others think. I need sleepy now.

Duffman: Hey Duff lovers! Does anyone in this bar loooove Duff?
Carl: Hey, it's Duffman!
Lenny: Newsweek said you died of liver failure.
Duffman: Duffman can never die, only the actors who play him. Ooh yeah!
Well that's the name of the game in YVR. Globeground starts you at $9/hr I believe, and any ramp position affilliated with a regional airline (i.e. leading to a flying position) is gonna be under $10. The only place you'll see higher wages are the independant FBOs on the south side which usually start in $11-$13 range.
So as WJ rampie starts at $10.45/hr and a AC one starts at $10.27.... thats nutz. I know for a fact the CSAs at WJ start around $10.50/hr and the AC ones are making $18/hr.
Insane that a WJ guy makes more than a AC guy..... (way it should be!)
INSANE!

Nahhh, the insanity comes from the fact that a small shoebox anywhere near the airport costs in the neighbourhood of $300k to buy; rents are commensurate, and both companies expect you to live on ~ $11/hr!

Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?
Happiness is V1 at Thompson!
Ass, Licence, Job. In that order.
Endless I am sure you may be right. I just heard from WJ people that TAC will be starting in YMM.....
Meh.

Westjet TAC is currently in YYC, YQU and YMM. Also at westjet TAC and CSA start off at the same hourly rate and have the same pay increment increases. Offhand I think AC rampies will have higher wages after staying on a while.
As far as I know, Calgary and Fort McMurray? are WestJet operated. All the others are contracted out to third party.
By summer help, that's probably just a "summer ambassador" which is all shifts in hell (the bagroom). no actual ramp action.
TAC actually just got a raise, starting is now $10.80 (which includes the two weeks of training, which used to be at $8/hr), however, the raise was not for all, just the starting wage. So people who have been there over 9 months don't get any more than their previous raise.

CSA at AC don't start at $18 they are around $10 as well. Also any agents that got laid off at $18/hr, start at the $10/hr if they are recalled. They don't go back to their same wage as when they left.
-Worldwide (Westjet, jazz)...... $8.90. Not as busy as they used to be, we'll see what happens.
-UPS..... $10.50 to start, increases.
-Purolator..... around $10.50 to start, increases rapidly.
Can you please post the link where you saw that AC YVR ramp job?
I was hired to work the ramp with AC in October and got laid off last month (5.5 months in, 2 weeks short of our probation ending where we'd get our flight benefits). We were told that we'd have the first crack and getting hired when things "picked up" again.
After the $10.27/hr, it works out to exactly $8.00 after all the deductions. Do yourself a favour and don't bother applying; AC will screw you over every way possible.
They laid me off 8 weeks ago and I'm still waiting for 2 weeks pay, vacation pay, and pension money; what a joke!
Its been a few years since I was a ramp rat but when I was at Hudson General(Globeground) I was making $8.50, When I moved to Jet-Eagle it was $10, and Purolator was $11.25.
Hey All ramped up when did you work for Burt over at J.E.T??
You can correct me if I'm wrong but I think the Ramp guys/Girls agreed to a "new pay scale" for the "new hires" in return they were "grandfathered" to keep the old pay scale..... so over time as the ramp guys/gals quit or retire the over all cost or pay if you will for the ramp will go down.
