By now, investors have grown used to a certain pattern in the financial results of WestJet Airlines, in which the Calgary-based carrier routinely beats estimates for profitability, passenger traffic and so on, month after month and quarter after quarter.

Unfortunately, that pattern ran into a wall with the latest news from the company. WestJet reported that its load factor – that is, the number of seats it filled on its planes – fell significantly in May compared with the same period last year, and the stock was downgraded by several brokerage firms.

Resurgence of a stronger and better Air Canada?

Backlash over WJ "across-the-board" sharp increased in fares?

ZIP and JETSGO eating away at Westjet market?

Well, Blastor,

In case you hadn't heard, Zip is finished as of this year. AC is still losing lots of money. Think they're going to be able to match WJs fares and still have a shot at making money?? I doubt it.

Time will tell.

Jetsgo will eat away at WJ, Air Can will get better and I'm glad that part of my salary isn't in WJ Stock.

WJ got slamed pretty good by the public who refused to pay Air Can fares on WJ flights.
