Forces Training

Post by Danger Zone »

Hey folks,

Just looking for any information on Canadian forces training, particularly air crew selection. Basically wondering what is involved once you reach Trenton besides the sim. Ex: Writin tests, what to study and anything else.

Thanks for the info!

In the late 90's there were several written tests, nothing you can study for. You will receive a precourse package with all you need to know. After sim/written, you carry on to Downsview for medicals.

TheCheez may be able to help you with more recent info.

I can't help much with the sim/tests, I just went for the medical end of things and there's definitely nothing you can do for that other than personal health.

The only test you write is the Navigator's test(I think) if you put that as a 2nd or 3rd choice. The sim is the big deal there and all I can recommend is what some of the guys have said. It's fairly basic but learning the fundamentals of which instruments do what, and developing a crosscheck to monitor them will help you out. They're not looking for proficiency initially, they want to see that you can learn and improve.

Gryphon and theCheez have said most of what needs to be said. The only thing I would add is that you want to make sure you don't overcontrol the a/c and you might want to practice on MS flight sim or go to your local flight school and get a bit of practice on their sim.

Maybe that picture answers your question, maybe not. But TOP GUN rules!

Best line in the movie.

"Mavericks in a flat spin and he's headed out to sea."

Broke the squadron up. :D

Thanks for the input everyone, it doesn't look like that one should stress over this test since it seems it is basically on how teachable you are and that you know how to control your hands and feet.

Thanks again,
DZ

Just relax and go along for the ride. If you make it - congrats. If you do not make it - then you can say you tried.

It truly is not for everyone.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Best of luck

Also don't expect the sim to fly anything like a real plane, it's really weird...just make sure you have a solid instrument crosscheck and you'll be fine
