There are hospital line ups for beds and services. Patients are dieing because the waiting lists are too long for treatment. Our education system is crumbling. ect etc etc.....but hey!!!!!!at least we elected a westener to make it fair NOT because he was the best choice.

Way to go Canada!!!
Job won't be over until peace, security have been restored, MacKay says
GLORIA GALLOWAY

From Wednesday's Globe and Mail

OTTAWA — Canada will spend more than $3.5-billion by 2009 to help Afghanistan rout the Taliban and restore peace and security, Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay said yesterday.

The total expenditures by Canadian taxpayers to date in the war-torn country amount to $2.3-billion, Mr. MacKay told the Commons defence committee late yesterday afternoon. That comprises $1.8-billion in defence spending and another $500-million in additional expenditures, including humanitarian assistance and democratic renewal.

Canada has promised to provide troops and security through to 2009. That will cost an additional $1.25-billion, Mr. MacKay said. The Canadian International Development Agency will spend another $310-million between now and 2011.

"Canada and its international partners are making a difference in Afghanistan" by helping to create a sense of security and self-sufficiency, as well as extend freedoms that have not previously existed, Mr. MacKay said.

He said Canada will know its job in Afghanistan is done when the more than 40 recommendations that came out of an international conference on Afghanistan that took place in London earlier this year have been achieved.

They include measures such as the development of an Afghan army, a police force and a border patrol, a significant reduction in the number of land mines and a targeted increase in female employment.

Liberal defence critic Ujjal Dosanjh, who sits on the committee, took Mr. MacKay to task over a number of issues, primarily a pending purchase of aircraft.

The government is reportedly ready to acquire a fleet of four C-17 Globemaster long-range cargo planes at a cost of $2.5-billion. General Rick Hillier, the Chief of the Defence Staff, is known to favour spending the money on short-range, tactical lift transport planes.

Defence Minister Gordon O'Connor told the House of Commons yesterday that no decision on the purchase has been made.

But Mr. Dosanjh accused Mr. MacKay and the Conservatives of choosing the long-range aircraft for political purposes and ignoring military requirements.

Mr. Dosanjh and NDP defence critic Dawn Black also asked about the detainment of prisoners in Afghanistan and whether they were being held in accordance with the spirit, if not the precise mandate, of the Geneva Conventions.

Canada turns any prisoners over to the Afghan government, but Ms. Black pointed out that human-rights observers say 30 per cent are tortured in Afghan prisons.

Mr. MacKay said Canada does bear responsibility for the prisoners captured by its troops, and "we have made our views known that we feel very strongly" that the rules of the Geneva Conventions be applied.

Dear brother...don't mistaken my anti-Harper...harp as a sign of disrespect of our military and it's service to the country and the great people that make it what it is.

I believe it's about balance, you folks deserve the proper tools and the best equipment. Period. I'm tired of the jokes about our military!!!

But thats not the point.

My fear as a tax paying Canadian is that we don't write a carte blanche to George because they are broke and we run with our troops and money to chase every shadow Georgy boy points his fat fingers at.

F him, and mostly F Harper for putting our people in harms way.

Kandahar is the biggest snake pit...wtf are we doin there???!!!

The Fiberals and Librano's have been out of power how long and your are trying to put this mess on Harper .
As for sending troops to foreign wars .Far better to be fighting a war on their land than ours.
Although if the Taliban had of won and defeated the west you would not have a computer. You and your boyfriend would be fighting over who had to wear the burkka

I'm pretty sure Harper hasn't had time to really screw much up yet. The Liberals, however, have had more than a decade to fix things, and look at where we are now.
F him, and mostly F Harper for putting our people in harms way.
As has been pointed out, I'm pretty sure the Liberals put our troops in Afghanistan. Of course now that they are getting shot, people seem to be getting cold feet.

Ah the age old poilitical blame game.... "he did it and left it for me to clean up"

Whatever...they're all the same. JFTR...I'm not a liberal supporter. I seem to always have to mention that because you people always allude to the fact I am one. Thats because most PC supporters have the mental depth perception of a walmart photo lab tech.

Birdies new avatar would not be allowed under taliban management.
Enjoy your freedoms while you still have them.

I would have thought that in a country so pro self medication that the youth would all jump at the chance to get to the afghan hills where the best dope in the world is grown. Not to mention some of the best Heroin
and Opium.
The business of poisoning the world's youth to finance the coming WW3 by the Jiahadists' is bigger than i thought . A friend of mine who was following the drug trails, told me that they use forklifts in the warehouses in Afghanistan and Pakistan to move their shit around.

No political party can count on my vote .The only thing they can count on is if they do a bad job i will vote to give someone else a chance to try better.

Wow!!! you had my attention until this last paragraph. Your post was legit and I thought I was about to be out classed by your words until...the last paragraph.

You seem a little obsessed with male Buttocks. Your attacks are personal and quite aggressive. Based on your demeanor and very strong references toward gay people, I have seen this type of behaviour before and I suggest the following.

1. Seek therapy and then support for your apparent issues with being in the preverbal "homosexual closet".

2. Avoid at all costs coming to here Hamilton. There is a low population of homosexuals for a reason!

3. Sorry but you see I'm gay positive....but I'm not a fag! There is a distinct difference. Although I'm tolerant just remember not many are. Remember that the next time you believe there is such a thing as 'internet anonymity'.

I can see why we went to afganistan (sp??) but it was kind of a rotten thing to do when the states left us in charge......we can only hope they don't expect Canada to protect Iraq when they are done there and are moving on to Iran or some other oil rich nation like ourselves.....jeese could this be a plot to take over the west? haha......But i agree with Birddog Harper sucks and he is also very bushish :weedman:

The hair, the walk, the pompass self righteous tone with which they speek thier positions on gay marriage, eventually i am sure harper will lie, tax breaks when services like medicare need money...personally I would rather pay the 7% GST over the 6 and be able to get a MRI when i needed one not in 6 months. When you cut them down all politicians are the same they don't give a hoot about the country they only care about re-election. At least Jean pumped money into his own province and had a bit of pride.

Provinces look after health care. So you can pay 100% GST and you still wouldn't get an MRI any faster....

Quebec has been getting pumped for 1/2 the century atleast.

Also they speak English, another similarity, and they both live in NA... I can see how one could confuse them....

IAB - I didn't suggest you were a liberal supporter, I was just stating that the liberals sucked previously, and I didn't/don't recall any threads whinning about Jean or Paul.

Frankly, yes it would have been nice to get Duceppe in as PM, but see we had/have a problem with that, they don't run out of Quebec so no Bloc leader will ever(99.9%) be PM. And I'm not sure who's the boss of the NDP because their own "leaders" have turned side, Buzz switched and backed the liberals... Sure the NDP have a platform and support other things but when most canadian think NDP they think Unions, and Oshawa turned PC in Federal and Provincial elections, the Unions don't back the NDP and that was there biggest supporter, now they only have those on welfare, and you don't get paid to vote so the welfarites didn't bother voting... and all the other parties, rainbow, christian, rhino, mj, green
, lol to them...

And frankly if you aren't working I don't think you should get a vote... but that's imo an for debate on another day...(and that's directed at welfare/ui folks, not an attack on you)

Last i checked, cyyz, the provinces went to the federal government to get health care funding....yeah it is provincially operated but it is also at least partially funded and regulated by the feds, hence it is a topic discussed at most federal level debates.....

Okay, here, 1 second

http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=19271

http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/new ... 82&k=82725
leading Canadian AIDS researcher and doctor says he is "morally outraged" that Health Canada has approved more than 21,000 requests for banned silicone breast implants but continues to deny patients with advanced HIV access to potentially life-saving drugs.
So, yeah, lets just be a bit realistic and ass-u-me, that if the gov'ts were taxing at 100% the money would be blown on stupid and useless bs, before you still got that MRI....

Trust me, if you live in ontario you know, that McGuinty just RAISED taxes for health care yet reduced(stopped) eye exams and psyiotherapy(sp)..

So pay more, get less, you see logic in that???

You know the Comedy channel ads, "time well wasted," well gov't is the same idea, "taxes well wasted."

Hypothetically, get 1 new MRI for wherever, NOW problem

hospital not equipped to support new machine, no room.
No techs to fix and maintain machine
No doctor to use machine...

So you can get a dozen new MRI's and they wouldn't do bupcuss for anyone....

Also, I'm forgeting the bureaucracy that goes with it, administration needs to be created, managers, assistants, etc for the new machine... The headaches begin...

Its not only about MRI's just like Harper is not like Bush solely for the reasons i stated. I got a funny email the other day though about the differences in health care provided to animals and to humans. Its wierd how we are willing to pay enormous amounts to treat our pets and ergo fund some vets pockets but when it comes to paying taxes to improve our helth care everyone is up in arms. Yeah there is mis management of funds at all levels of government, but i think this thread was started with the intent of making people aware that there are problems at home which require attention before we pour alot of money into another country like afganistan which does sweet F**k all for Canada.

This is the essence of what is wrong in the states they are so busy funding the military to go bomb the middle east in the name of freedom, while people are sitting in the ghetto's of the US broke, unemployed and totally not free. I think the author of this thread is just hoping that the same doesnt happen in canada.

And here's the kicker, by your logic the unemployed shouldn't be allowed to vote. Oddly enough it is these people who need the vote the most to oust a dictator like Bush who is costing them the freedom which they are promised by thier constitution. I could get into a whole arguement of how prisoners and the poor should be the only ones to vote, but i will spare you that debate.

Believe me i know first hand the health care system in ontario is backwards. there was a lithotriptor (sp??) for breaking kidney stones in an ottawa hospital ready to use, but no one was qualified to use it. My mom had to go to montreal for treatment at her expense. But the answer isn't giving money to fund a war in a foriegn country. Yes it is still a war despite what bush calls it. All people are trying to say is help Canadians then worry about others. it is selfish but thats the way it is......and to bring things to a close Harper has so far appeared to be a supporter of the bush ideals, at least Jean and Paul told him where to go when he asked for support on Iraq. That is what the liberals are good at and god bless them, i am a supporter and i am not ashamed to say so.

Before bono, and to this date, we have forgiven over 10's of billions of dollars in loans and aid to AFRICA... We spend millions on R&D on AIDs, we spend millions on relief for 3rd world countries.... I'm up for isolationism again, stop importing refugees and spending millions on them... Stop helping the weaker nations, @#$! them, you're right, we should look after ourselves first, why are we waiting for triple bypass surgery when we'll spend a million for little tiborimothieteh from 3rd world to get flown in and have the operation done at sick kids on the tax dollar...

Ahh, wait, then you're called a racist and a conservative... Funny....

Can't smoke in a Publicly funded(I own part there of) building, Can't smoke in a Private Establishment. Our rights have been taken away by the gov't for years, I can marry a man, but not my sister(if I had one)....

As for prisoners, wow, they should be thanking there stars they have it so easy and they've had bleeding hearts get them the wonderful system they now have, because if it was my prison system, lol, the budget would be about 100,000 a year, that's it instead of 100k per prisoner, and yeah, I'd have prisons like they have in china 100 people in a cell, you pay for your own bullet and bring in some good ol' fashioned ME beliefs(I mean we want to bring some of their culture they want a kirpan, they want the women to wear burkas) hell now they commit a crime, shop lifting, chop off a hand... Simple...
That is what the liberals are good at and god bless them, i am a supporter and i am not ashamed to say so.
They just said no to bush because they wanted the money for themselves...But it's true, they did know how to say no, they cost us in the lumber trade, they cost us our "Good" relations status... Bush is out in 2 years, so what will you guys say when the next republican is elected?

naw realist.... I'll be a bitter old man when I actually do need that MRI and I'm screwed up the butt waiting for it, but I'm still hopeful that we'll have CPP then and I'll be able to live with a roof over my head and wait in line. =)

As someone else mentioned politicians care about 1 thing and that's re-election.

All my support for the cons or harper, they don't know who I am, they don't really care about me, but atleast while they're screwing me, it doesn't seem so bad, because the other guy did it twice as often and I was getting sore... =)
