BA posts big profit...........
Nice to see some airlines making money again. If we could only get rid of the dead wood being protected by governments. Things would then get much better for all of us.
Nice work BA.

1.2 billion (US) has a nice ring to it huh? Especially in one of the most competitive markets in the world. Scary thing is that when they move in to T5 at LHR its only gonna go up. From a Canadian point of view services to YVR/YYZ/YUL have been increased and another destination or two that AC has a monopoly on are cards. Watch this space.

I have not read Bransons book as of yet as I just finished 'How to Coach the Toronto Maple Leafs For Dummies', and am starting in to my new one by Robert Milton. Its called the 'Big Heist'. Have only just started it but did read the last page as I always do. It ends with him riding off in to the sunset with a big wad of cash. Problem is what he left behind was the bones of a once mighty airline.
In all sincerity state run airlines that are heavily supported by government, Chapter 11 and the red tape of 'Open Skies' need to be taken out of aviation so the healthy and profitable companies can return the industry to respectability. Let the best win and the rest die.

That is great news about BA's profit. I am just pointing out that if you look at history, your statement may be a wee bit arrogant.
Every airline is a glass house. Taking pokes without looking at your own backyard goes against what you stand for which is what surprised me with your post. ( BA ran out Laker and others with the aid of espionage and government influence. They tried it with Branson who buried them in court. It cost him his record company but putting an end to BAs' "dirty tricks" campaign was more important. ) That is obviously not going on now.......but I am sure you get my drift. Hello pot?........this is the kettle calling.
All the best and lets hope that management does not squander it away.

Dude you are really bitter! Being the most profitable carrier in the world and the best airline according to the customers brings out all comments.
Air Lingus was a dead duck after 9/11 and he saved it. He is a tough SOB but is going to find out if he facks too much with the pensions. I have much respect for the man. Cadet pilot to CEO in his 40's.
BAA just sold LHR,LGW,STN and a few others for just over $20 billion. BA is making big profits and close to operating at a 10% margain. T5 is opening in 18 months. Slots at LHR are worth a fortune and as one of our senior managers said recently 'For a reason we can't understand people will pay a premium to travel through Heathrow'. Works for me and the shareholders me thinks.
The pension issue is worrying but will be fixed over time. BA is a prime takeover target at the moment. That being said it may swallow another carrier over here in Europe or possibly an American carrier at some point. Should be an interesting couple of years ahead..............
