YYZ 33 ops

Post by wingtip »

This question may already have been asked but when did YYZ start conducting simultaneous approches on the 33's? I understood there were separation issues in the past??

Good to see anyways...

I don't know when it started but it is permissable in both VFR and IFR weather. In IFR the staggered spacing must be 1.5 miles, therefore 3 in trail for the same runway. In VFR almost anything goes, just no overtakes. Normally offloads to 33R are limited to 6 an hour so as not to impact the departure rate too much.

Thanks YYZ twr,

As a frequent user, I am happy to see both being used.

Overtakes are fine on the 33's. They are not permitted in the unlikely event of simultaneous 6R/6L operations. Aircraft must be established on headings of 30 degrees or less to the localizer before vertical separation can be discontinued. There won't likely be more then 6 arrivals per hour on 33R to avoid departure delays.

Cheers

Mel

Thanks for the clarification!

Instead of "avoid" I would maybe say "minimize" as there are always departure delays on the 33s.
