JV guys - the "giver"

Post by Captain S itmagnet »

Ex-JV driver, with enquiring mind needs to know,,,

What ever became of the "giver". There was a notorious incident several years ago at YQK involving a King Air and busting of minimums. TC attempted to throw the book at him to the tune of a 300-day suspension, but it was to be appealed. That's the last I heard. Anyone from that era at JV have anything further they are willing to post? I must assume that this individual has retired, or is at least of retirement age by now.

Thanks

If I was drunk right now I could fill your screen up with an answer to that question.

heard him the other week still flying his metro. Everywhere I go and people ask where I used to work, they all say, "well, you must know...., did you hear what he did?" and all the stories are different

ok, the easy part is solved, he's still flying. That explains the voice I thought I heard on the radio. Now, Flywest, pull up a scotch and tell us a story...

I'm glad I'm not a pilot because all these bad stories would involve me somehow...hell...I'm surprised that I'm not blamed for this one!

This is a great time to state the obvious...

A great pilot is a lot more than simple stick and rudder. Everyone here knows that a large chunk of the picture is decision making.

The Giver is the WORST decison maker and therefore...pilot I have ever known.

As a person...great guy. Pilot....YIKES.

Disco,

Did you ever think........"Giver" might say the same about you?

Gear Up!

PS. I don't really think he gives a rat's ass what you think of him thus you've wasted your time with your opinion.

Have an awesome weekend dude!

Actually, Gear Up,

I don't give a rat's hairy ass what the Giver thinks about me. In fact, him and I have had many discussions that clearly underscore our difference of approach. His opinion on matters related to flying are utterly inconsequential to me.

Thanks for the input though ;)

A great weekend to you too!

Hey Louis. Just think of why one would be named "giver" when it comes to flying.

Guys question for ya, I know that he has been violated, but has he ever had an accident? From what I know I don't think he has

The Giver means well. He just doesn't know what he means. Sea level in Severn was always negotiable.

Then you obviously haven't heard all the Giver stories. He has never killed anyone but as far as bent metal goes, well that is a different story!!!!

I had left JV shortly before the YQK incident, and was still in YQT at the time. I won't get into the specific story but needless to say it was an example of what the concept of CRM is not about. The Giver did lose his licence for a year( or there abouts) because of that flight, that I can say with 100% certainty.

Back around '87 we used to have to attend the "Giver groundschool", given by who else but the Giver. Lots of very interesting approach information given in those G/S's and how to take apart a B-99's electric gear motor with nothing more than a pair of tweezers and a needle. (Alot of sarcasm meant in the last line.)

Then there came the first version of the JV SOP's. I think you can guess who wrote them. There was one part that had to do with an engine failure on take off. It basically said that the F/O was to sit on his hands and not touch a F****n thing. I think I still have the origional document in a box in the basement somewhere.

Anyways, they were interesting days in Northern Ontario, JV has evolved in alot of positive ways from those days,( not that we thought that there was anything wrong with it at the time), there was and there still are alot of good people working there.

The Giver

Post by Turd Ferguson »

Had the pleasure of meeting "The Giver" a few years ago when my F/O, a former Bearskins Pilot and I were having breakfast in YWG. I had no idea who the hell this was and my F/O hadn't clued me in, so if first impressions count, well this guys an idiot. Only afterwards did I get the dirt,so to speak.Unfortunately these guys are everywhere. The sad part is that they will outlive the rest of us!!Obvlivious to the dangers that exist.
I'll take Sexpots for $1,000.00 Alex

My wife was on that YQK flight. I guess that means "Giver" and me are almost related.
He must be doing well cause when I saw him a few days ago he was sporting a very well made hair piece.

Does he still have 2 hair pieces? I was always tempted to glue velcro to the roof and see if it would stick.

Apparently there is also a goos story about those cowboy boots pointing straight up on the ramp in YWG and someone losing their job...what I heard is 3rd or 4th hand info, but I'm sure someone on here would have witnessed it.

Who fn cares.............. I have heard 'em all (Giver stories , that is) and still nobody does anything about his shitty flying.

Only thing that I can do is keep me and my loved ones off ANY airplane that he is captain of!

i dont know about his flying ....but he's probably the best pilot to deal with ....always on time...orders his fuel well in advance....never changes his fuel load over and over...and over...like some of you :P always see him helping load his own plane....seems like a damn good guy to me :)
