US pilots taking CANADIAN jobs

Post by dream chaser »

I seem to be reading a lot on hear lately about US pilots trying to come across the border and work in Canada. If some of the US pilots who visit this site can shed some light...please tell me you're dual citizens and the government is not just letting you guys walk right over and scoop up the AC jobs because I know for a fact it doesn't work the other way around. Don't get me wrong, if I was making 19000 in the right seat of an RJ and the company was looking to throw out my current shitty contract and replace it with an even shittier contract, I'd be looking to get out too. It's just that we are already flooded with pilots in Canada and us bottom feeders have been putting in our time since 9/11, waiting for our shot at AC.

They must have some legitimate means of crossing the border to work ie: citizenship as we too are a little bit protective. We don't import skilled or educated workers. We are in the export business as far as they go! We import the likes of gang members, tax evaders, abusers of social services and NFL and NBA players!

As far as aviation... how about two corporate Gulfstream aircraft that are based in Canada (YYZ) and operate under the guise of being US. ie: ONEX(Gerry Schwartz) and Tannenbaum's aircraft.

Both have American crews but Canadian maintenance and ARE Canadian based regardless of being N-registered. This is due to import taxes payable on those aircraft. Our tax laws giving Canadian jobs to Americans on our soil

If they were initially American, they would not hold dual citizenship becauce I believe the US will not allow dual citizenship. Canada will allow it though.

There was a post on pprune a long while back where American pilots complained about Canadians and other foreigners coming to the states to buy into those pay-to-fly 500 hour F/O jobs. Then weaseling their way into the system. That door is swinging both ways.

USA Allow dual citizenship

If you are a dual U.S./Canadian citizen you should always present yourself as a Canadian citizen when entering Canada. However, U.S. citizens should use their U.S. passports when entering or leaving the United States.

As simple as that.

There are some cases where it is possible to loose the US citizenship but most of the time, dual Canadian/USA is not an issue.
