YXL...landing 34, and insisting on exiting on Alpha....WHY??
All the little airplanes sitting at the top of the hill just waiting for the twits to taxi up alpha, before they can taxi down.....how PHUQUEN STUPID is that?? Go to the end, and come up Bravo...it's so bloody obvious! I can get the airplane stopped as short as anybody out there...but I take it to the end! Why? Glad you asked. Less use of reverse equals less wear on the engine! DUH! Not to mention brake wear? Price out the cost of replacing the brakes on your bird! Mention nothing of the fact that aircraft waiting to depart could taxi down the hill and save time. (They could be backtracking while the guy landing is still rolling out) I mentioned this to YXL FSS...."can we make this an SOP?".....guess not....too many STOL wannabes landing on 34!
End of rant.
End of rant.

All we could do is ask somebody to continue to the end and exit there. Being uncontrolled, of course, means you don't have to do what we ask. We rely on good airmanship to make things work for you. Can't you taxi into Alpha and hold short, thereby making the other guy HAVE to continue to the end to exit???
Great idea...'cept FSS asks us to remain at the top of the hill until the landing traffic has cleared. Mybe I'm the only one who sees this as a "no brainer"?"
There is an hour (give or take) in the morning and afternoon where this practice could save everyone time, fuel and pain in the ass factor?

This sounds like a comfort factor to me. SOme FSS will ask for things to speed the planes up a bit and be more efficient. I try to co-ordinate between two aircrqaft or aircraft in vehicles all the time. My motto is the sooner there in the air and clear or on the apron the sooner there out of my hair. It ussually works well enough.
That being said some people aren;t comfortable doing these things. When i train i always give the trainee alternate ways of doing things to speed things up but i always stress only do it if your comfortable with it. So it could be a comfort matter or an experience issue if the FSS is asking you.
the other option is to do it anyways, as long as tell the FSS what your doing there is no harm in it. If there is a valid reason why you shouldn't do it i'm sure the FSS will advise you.

What big guy said...
I am not going to get into telling...excuse me...SUGGESTING what you should do, since I don't work there, and though I don't see any, there may be factors I'm not aware of. However to quote myself "Being uncontrolled, of course, means you don't have to do what we ask."
