The Super Tanker

While the A380 was the star of the airshow, the '10 Tanker Air Carrier' certainly delivered a great display too. The tanker is based on a DC-10-10 and carries the water for aerial firefighting missions in a special tank below the fuselage.

The tanker conversation has been developed by 10 Tanker STC, LLC. The modified aircraft features external tanks under the fuselage to hold 45'600 liters of water. The tanks can be fefilled on the ramp in eight minutes, and water is dropped at cockpit-controlled rates using a computerized gravity feed system based on technology proven by Erickson Air-Crane on their S-64 SkyCrane helicopter. The water is dropped at flow rates up to 5'700 liters per second to achieve coverage typically prescribed by firefighters. FAA certification for the Super Tanker is expected shortly.

10 Tanker STC, LLC is a joint venture of the principals of Omni Air International, which formerly operated the initial aircraft, and Cargo Conversations, LCC.

Anyone on here who used to fly a DC10?

What's the runway length needed for a 10, given ~25C, 1000' Palt, fuel for about a 300 mile round trip (at, say 10,000ft) and a load of 120k lbs?

How about a stall speed under roughly the same conditions?

Where's the link? All I can see are two globes in the sky, or are those two suns? I think I'm going blind.
