A male pilot in his 60s is in hospital with critical injuries after a plane crash 60 kilometres north of Toronto Monday morning.
The small aircraft came down at about 10:30 a.m. near Highway 48 in the town of Georgina, north of Stouffville.
The Cessna four-seater clipped the roof of a house on Smith Boulevard before landing in the front yard.
The home is a short distance from the Baldwin airfield.
The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was believed to be the only one inside the plane. He was airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital.
The woman who lives in the damaged home is a nurse, and administered first aid after she heard the crash.
As the aircraft came down, it took out hydro lines, which started a few brush fires.
It is not known if the pilot was returning from a trip or experienced trouble after takeoff and tried to return to the airport.
Officials from Transport Canada are investigating the cause of the crash.
