CL-415 VS. BIRD

Post by AEROMONKEY »

Tanker was on approach today and hit a bird...the entire front window on both sides was totally spidered with a nice imprint where the bird hit.....I dont fly but that has to scare the crap outta ya when it first happens...i climbed inside to have a look and you really couldn't see much out of the window. that has to make for a tricky landing........

Has this happened to anyone else?

This thread is useless without pics. :)

At least it was just the window broke, and they got down fine.

Actually it didn't happen landing in T. Bay. It happened about 50 miles northeast while checking out a lake before scooping. Neither pilot saw the bird so they are not sure what type they hit. The aircraft returned to T. Bay for a uneventful landing but yes both windshields are gone.

" Has this happened to anyone else? "

Yeh, I hit a Duck in a PBY in 1980 in Manitoba water bombing.

It shattered the co-pilots windshield into very small cracks that made it impossible to see through. Fortunately it did not come out of the frame.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no

After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.
