Farnsworth test
Hello..
I vaguely recall seeing a post on here about someone having taken the Farnsworth Colour vision test during an AC medical.. (the one with the little pucks).. Does anyone know if they will use that one if necessary, or if they will accept a "pass" from Transport Canada on that test (I just did it at TC, for peace of mind, even though I had passed the "practical" test years ago).. I did ok on that test.. the Dr. told me that Transport is actually working on getting colour vision OUT of the requirements.. that was an old military thing... light guns etc.. anyway, I did ok on the test, with a bit of "help" here and there from the Dr.. he said the lighting can sometimes hinder your results.
So, just looking for some sound comments from anyone who might have done this test during the AC medical (I don't haven't even been called for the medical, but what the heck..think optimistically?). ..please spare me the "flame" about the importance of an AC medical and their right to give one.. I have processed all that, and have my own opinions.. they don't really matter.. AC has people do a medical, and thats that!
Thanks for anyone's help.

I am certain someone will correct me if I am wrong, but if you have any vision anomally they will give you a form and ask you to go to either an ophthamologist or optometrist - go to an optometrist as it is faster to get an appointment. You will be given a full eye examination once complete, fax the results back.
As was explained to me by my examiner years ago, though colour vision does not deteriorate with time, any changes in your colour perception could be an indication of diabetes...

Hey TBone,
I fail the plate test every time I do it. I did the AC medical and failed it again. They got me to do the puck test (passed no problem) and I already had a letter from my optometrist saying I had passed both his tests. They said no problem.
Hope that helps.
Good Luck

I had heard years ago that the lantern test was called Farnsworth also..who knows! From what I've heard hardly anyone uses that one anymore.
Cheers

The test with the coloured pucks is called the Farnsworth D15 or D14 (15 pucks),
The light test is the lantern test.
I always have trouble with the Ishihara plates (coloured plates) on my regular yearly medicals. When I did my AC medical last October I for what ever reason passed the plate test but when I went to see my Optometrist to have the form filled out she did the Farnsworth test anyway just to be safe, as it is a more conclusive test.
The plate test is not a conclusive test its just a way to quickly screen people. So if you have trouble with it, it really doesn't mean shit because they will have you do the Farnsworth or the Lantern test.
