In no particular order why it came to a screeching halt:
- ACPA not ready to leave their union for ALPA as still their is a internal dispute going on between OAC (original Air Canada) and OCP (original Canadian).
- ALPA not willing to talk about joining ACPA.
- Seems the Jazz boys wanted their "cake and eat it as well" when coming down to figuring out a seniority issue.
- AO lawsuit, seems the ACPA membership will not tolerate making a deal with a group when they have a 300 million dollar lawsuit hanging over their head as certain pilots have now held the junior members career hostage.
I think what Jazz has to do is figure where it went "off the tracks" and continue to have dialogue with ACPA with the regards to eliminating the whipsawing that has taken place and allow for movement within the ranks when the hiring does come back..
Over three years ago Jazz was in a position to see any Jet flying they were doing soon disappear with the F-28's being retired and the BAE 146's having just a little life left in them.
Now flash forward to 2004 and Jazz will be in a position to operate 65 jet aircraft in a couple years with the option for 15 more still to be mediated by Teplinsky. Given that the retirements at the mainline in the next ten years add up to more than 1300 pilots hopefully allowing an amendment to LOU 18 for a orderly transition for some from Jazz.

Spoke with a few furloughed Jazz FO's recently, apparently there will be another 10 Jazz FO's resigning soon to go to Westjet and Jetsgo. Morale is supposedly in the toilet. Meanwhile there are additional rumours of even more furloughs!!!

You have to understand the thinking of the junior pilots at Jazz. Why would anyone want to stay at a company that has no movement? A FO at Jazz can see his career stagnate in the right seat for many years to come. But many would like to see a solution between both groups of pilots at Air Canada and allow some sort of progression for our ranks. That simple.
The rumour of a surplus of pilots at Jazz is just that a rumour. There might be a need for some of the furloughed pilots to be back in the late winter
