Personally I think that the abbotsford airshow has been falling for the last couple of years. this year no blue angles, thunderbirds, red arrows, C5 (but the C17 wasn't that bad) fraser blues(always impressive) or the nut job grandley family. I'd like to see a bit of a change

to hell with Abbotsford, I'd like to see a two venue event. static displays wll be on hand on the south side at yvr. (close down 8R/26L) and have shuttle busses from YVR to spanish banks / jerricho / stanley park. I think that english bay would be the ultimate venue for the airshow. all those in favor of drinks down at the boathouse on english bay 8) , or a barbeque down on the beach should send their thoughts diectly to the vancouver city council. someone should spearhead a project like this one. any takers. please :D if the guys in chilliwack can put together a show like theirs then vancouver should be just a riot.

I think that the good folks at city council in vancouver should consider putting this on.

Vancouver benson and hedges festival of Flights. pardon the pun.

The C5 didnt come this year because a crack was found in the airframe of one, so the entire fleet was grounded. Although the crew did come up on the C17.

The Grandleys didnt come because of the massive ego of the airshow organizer. He told grandley that if he goes to the chilliwack flight fest dont come to abbotsford. He will be back next year.

I didnt mind one bit that the blue angels or thunderbirds didnt come. I thought the airshow was really good this year and it didnt have any long drawn out performances that killed the flow of things.

And if how busy yxx is projected to become is actually the death of the airshow. I dont see the slightest chance of shutting down a runway at yvr, especailly when there are 45 minute waits to take off already. It would be cool, but they are gonna need to find somewhere else to house it.

And how do you know the airshow organizer's ego is the reason Bud Granley was not at YXX this year? First off, the airshow is organized by a large board of directors comprised of Abbotsford Flying Club and outside industry members. There is a full time paid President, but he does not work in isolation of the board. Did it occur to you that maybe some people in the Fraser Valley aren't so keen to pay to see Granley at YXX if they can see him at YCW for free? Did it occur to you that maybe some people, like me, have seen Granley so many times they would rather see someone new? I have nothing against Granley and think he is a wonderful airshow performer, but there comes a time when it gets a little tiresome watching the same guy doing the same things for 40 odd consecutive years. Personnally, I hope they don't have him back until he does his final retirement tour. There are too many other top notch airshow acts out there that have never appeared at YXX, and I'd like to see some of them.
