Solid companies in Calgary looking for M1 Engineers?

Post by Riverman »

Hello

I'm going crazy in the North and I'm looking for a move to Calgary for the right employer. I've had my license for a year and have spent my entire appreticeship working on light twins and mostly PT-6 turbine commuters.
I'm finding tons of job postings but I'm a little overwhelmed. I don't know anybody in Calgary and I would really value and advice that those on this forum could provide. I've talked to enough people to know that there are many companies currently hiring that would not be worth leaving my current posting for.
I would like to get an M2 so a company that offered growth with a broad range of aircraft would be ideal but not necessary. Fair wages, good people, and stability are worth the most to me.
Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Cheers

His address thing says YEG. That would explain why he wants to move to Calgary.

mmm I suppose so...it's close. BarXH would be a good choice, I know they are hard up for M1's. Other then that Corp. Express is looking, but I can't comment on what they are like to work for.

My address is misleading... I'm way north and getting specific would give me away.
I choose Calgary because I like the city and my wife would be delighted to move there.
Not sure about the BarXH thing. Many people have jumped ship in the last little while. I would imagine anyone with a pulse would be hired at the moment. I've also been told there is a high apprentice to engineer ratio.
Any comments on Dynamic Flight Services? Ron sounds like a nice guy on the phone, but I've been mislead before.

Dynamic = Alta Flights if I'm not mistaken (correct me if I'm wrong)

We worked on one of their machines that just came out of inspection. You do not want any part of a company that considers something like that "airworthy" or even "safe for flight"

Just my opinion (and I've been wrong before) but I would go somewhere else.

Dynamic and Alta are two different companies completely. I would avoid Dynamic as they seem to have a constant revolving door of pilots and engineers. Look at the number of job postings they put up over the last few months; that many people leave for a reason.
A certain company based in Peace River is setting up a base in Calgary this month and they are looking. Good company IMHO.

I would certainly avoid Dynamic, . . .the company setting up base in Calgary is Peace Air. . .I would suggest you call Dave Couch at Peace River and talk to him. . .overall a good company.

Not wanting to incriminate the inocent I will just say that through a close and reliable contact Dynamic has much to be desired in the way of maintenance quality control. Stuff flying that shouldn't be. Nuff said. Good luck on your hunt. 8)
