I took the photos while taxing nearby. Went to the lake to drop off some geologists. It was a surprise to all of us. I've since heard that there are other aircraft tucked away in the bush nearby. Not sure what kind though. It would be nice to go and explore.

Let me explain!
I have a website on vintage transports; types vary from bushplanes such as DHC-2 Beaver to DC3 and DC-6 and such.
I like to travel and combine holidays with visits to companie and museumd for these planes. I have a patient wife, fortunately...
At some point I recognised planes on off-airport locations get overlooked; so I started putting them in th epicture again and made a page

Great shots of the Dutch Cat. Our Canadian Cat Driver sure seemed pleased with that particular airframe and the folks involved with the restoration.

I am certain that someone pointed this out before but Miss Piggy is a crashed C46 aircraft that was operated by Lamb Air, not a DC3. She is called Miss Piggy, "...because she was able to hold so much freight and she did actually once carry pigs on board. On November 13th, 1979 she was flying a cargo of one skidoo and many cases of pop for the Arctic Co-op from Churchill to Chesterfield Inlet. She lost oil pressure in her left engine shortly after leaving Churchill. The crew of three tried to return the aircraft to Churchill airport but they clipped hydro poles with one wing just before the IAEP lab and crash landed on the rocks there. Two out of the three crew were seriously injured."

Hi,I just came accross this site today,I was raised in the north [manitoba]and take fishing trips up north from time to time,on one trip to lake namew a local guide showed me a bay with a small marker on shore mentioning the crash site,the guide said the plane went down in the 40;s or 50's,I was amazed that we could see the plane sitting on the bottom as we floated over it,it was hard to see any more than an outline,but seems to be a big twin engine.I am an experienced diver and now some years later since I saw it ,I want to plan a trip back and dive the site,is there anyone that may be interested in having me find out what it is,I would need some info on what to look for as I have little knowledge on planes,just find it an interesting dive,my email is mechanoboy@hotmail.com,thanks

we did a pratice run on reindeer to see what it is going take to salvage the dc-3. we dragged a 12 ton cat home to the KINGDOM. next year, we should have the dc-3 home.

once the wings are bolted back on when the dc-3 is in the KINGDOM, it will show up nicely on google earth.
the dc-3 is very historic because after the crash in 1969, everyone has signed their name on the plane. so you have 40 years of history right there.
once i sign the plane it will be worth lots of money, LOL

The Bristol Freighter is laying on the shore of Beaver Lodge Lake in NWT. About 150nm nw of Yellowknife. From what I could find out, it seems it went through the ice one year while servicing a uranium mine in the 60's. It was hauled on shore and salvaged. Heard it belonged to Max Ward back in the day. I didn't get a chance to poke around her or find out it's regristration. Found it just 3wks ago. And last week I met Max Ward but I completly forgot to ask him about it.

I has a job as a student in Yellowknife in 1967 working for the Adams family from Denver Colo. I was the swamper on a Cessna 185 owned and flown by a geologist named Russ Cutter, Grand Junction Colo. We were looking for uranium and flew many days doing gamma ray emission surveys. We spotted many wrecked aircraft, mainly on the tundra but one in particular was on the beach of Baker Lk. We landed to have a look and eat our lunch. I have some photos of the wreck. It is missing the left main landing gear, probably landing on the ice in the spring years earlier. It was stripped of usable parts and left. It was marked with Pacific Western Airlines markings. The other interesting fact about this spot was, as we snooped around, we found another wrecked airplane in the woods nearby. Russ Cutter identified it as a early model twin engine Cessna fabric covered aircraft. The motors were still in the air frame. One could see where it had cut the trees off when it crashed. I guess this mineral exploration camp was a bad luck spot of airplanes and pilots.
Later that summer I moved up to near Coppermine and got to ride with the pilots who found Bob Gauthier, stranded on the tundra for a long time in the winter. Ron Sheardown from Toronto i think.
