Approximately 95 pilots were terminated from Canjet. I would guess that at least 80 of them have put in a resume within the last few days.

Not that many have,(maybe 30-40) I think they are in the wait and see mode abit too. We have hired our courses for Sept. and the two courses in October are full now too. We are awaiting word for one in November but if not then we are going to begin again in the new year as new deliveries begin again. We will continue to interview a little up to the end of December. It is very sad what happened however the Canjet folks won't take precidence over other people who have been trying to get on here for some time. (That are carrying our needed qualifications). Granted cjers score well on the matrix and have a few people to vouch for them but I think all employers will be cautious. I think it is important not to hire big groups from the same place all at once. WJ experienced this when c3 closed and to some degree air atlantic too. This isn't by any means saying we won't hire/interview them but just spread em out a little on each course.

As Canjet and Sunwing would admit too. The last couple of months was almost impossible to hire direct entry experienced jet captains. It may be in companies best interest to get these guys off the street to help prevent someone new from starting up a new company and lowering the fares once again. Kr would have a hard time starting a 5 - 6 airplane charter company without experience captains.

I know I am dreaming abit but it makes sense!

It make sens, that's pretty much how Air Transat started in 1986 after Quebecair's folding.

Answer to Hab it's question.

The 600, 700, 800s are a different type rating than the 300 and 500.

Cheers.

The TC designation for the 737-100/200 is B73A and 737-300/400/500 is B73B. How does TC designate the NG?

Thanks

Nice post. I too hope CJ pilots land on their feet soon. With a lot of ex-Air Atlantic/Maritimer's working at WestJet, and a commuters sked, I'm sure many will find jobs there if they want to go.

I was only getting at the fact that it is possible to commute from YHZ to YYC even without the rumor of a virtual base in YHZ. From the CJ'ers I know, it was evident they chose to work there mostly for the pleasure of working in their home province.
It's hard not to like a Maritimer, I hope to see some of you as co-workers soon.

I too wish all of the CJ people the best of luck! I know what it feels like as I was formerly of Royal/C3.

As someone said earlier "at least it has happened while there are still jobs out there". Absolutely! And the fact that there isn't as many pilots on the market competing for the same jobs. Not like the 650 or so when C3 packed it in.

CanJet had a lot of great people. Great people don't stay out of work for too long.

Best of luck folks!

For J31,

You might have guessed it- Transport designates the NG as "B73C".

In the States it is one type rating from -100 to 900.

There are more differences from the -300 EFIS to -300 analog than -300 EFIS to NG :!:

You're right. It's the same for a Learjet.

One type rating "learjet" written on your licence means you can act as PIC on anything from a 20 series up to the 45 and 40. Let me tell you there are just a few differences!!

I heard Westjet's putting on a job fair in YYZ for Canjet employees. Don't know for who exactly, but i'd imagine its for everybody.

There is also a suggestion to managment on the WestJet Pilot Forum that our hiring department go to YHZ to help out the layed off pilot's with interviews.

last I heard the job fair from WestJet in YHZ is for FA's and agents only, the pilots still have to go through the normal process.
Many thanks to all the airlines in Canada for giving the moral support we need. It's good to see that one day we're competitors, the next we're all brothers/sisters.
Hope to see you WestJetters on the line in the future.

Just another tidbit I read from the WestJet Pilot Forum. The hiring department typed up an information package in case any CJ pilots went to that job fare in YYZ and they have started to phone screen some while being dilligent to return all personal phone calls and emails from any interested CanJet pilots who had questions.

I think WJ is too busy taking Cargojet's pilot's right now. They should hold a job fair for them.
