I don't mean to be argumentative here, but this is where the problem lies. They shouldn't have had to find anything for her. If she can play at the same level as everyone else for sure give her a place on the team because of her skill.

Otherwise nobody should be found a task on any team (male or female).

I admire her for going back and trying over and over though, never give up.

I didn't mean a pity task or something of sorts, W2 was saying that she was 120 and the other guys were 160+, surely a girl with low weight could run faster then some of them, or toss the ball as far as them(don't see what weight would do with that) and also punt or play for the special teams, and kick in field goals...

I mean, sure if she got sacked or tackled she'd probably be dying but if that was the criteria on the coaches mind, that shouldn't count... She could have been the toss her in 1 time chick that gets the first down and goes off in a stretcher..

Like I said, surely she could have been good at something, or was it "nope, not a good linebacker, phuck off."

The "top" leagues are not gender specific. I'm going to be politically incorrect here and just come out and state the truth. There just haven't been any women good enough to. Some have tried but none have suceeded. yet

I think these girls are hurting female athletes more than they are helping. By fighting for an equal oportunity to play on the "boys" hockey team they are going to essentially make all the teams unisex and the reality is, if men and women are trying out for the same team, it's going to be almost 100% men. Women/girls have fought so hard and so long for an opportunity to have a team or their own so they can participate in the sports they enjoy just like the men do. Now in one single act of vanity/selfishness/egotism (Oh you'd agree if you actually heard these girls talk on the news) they have ruined all the progress that female athletes have made in creating a place where they can play too. Now there will just be a "Hockey Team" and not a girls or boys team.
What happens to all the other girls who want to play?

One of them is a goalie, she may do ok. The other is a defenseperson, i'm sorry but a 200 pound forward coming in on a break is just going to run her over, i don't care how fast, agile or skilled she is, physics will win.

These girls are just a bunch of whiny little brats. They put down the entire girls hockey team and basically said that the (other) girls are not good enough for them. Now when they get cut from the boys team should they be allowed back into the girls team? They aren't even that good, nobody even knew who they are before this whole incident. And if they are sooooooo good why, WHY, WHY! were they awarded a private hockey coach as part of the settlement?

In the end i don't even really blame these two (extremely annoying) girls. I blame the female "role models" around them. If you saw/heard any of the press conferences then you'd see that it's these feminazi lawyers and activists around them, playing up to the cameras that are probably putting this all in their heads. They're probably not even old/mature enough to really understand the long term effects they will have on female athletics and how much they are hurting the movement to get more funding and more attention paid to girls teams at the high school and university levels. You think with the budget cuts at high schools and universities that they won't eventually realize that "HEY! I only have to fund one team. I'll put all of our small and shrinking budget into the more popular and profitable team (the mens) and the women/girls who get left behind and deprived of a place to play can just try out for the men/boys team!" Give it a couple of years.

and to end this rant...
IT'S NOT A HOCKEY TEAM! IT'S A BOYS HOCKEY TEAM! Why can't we have anything of our own anymore? There are girls teams, even all girls gyms (so I have to drive farther instead of using the one down the street because of my gender). But if there was anything that was specifically for men we have violated someones human rights. If women can play in the PGA, then there shouldn't be a LPGA. Let them all play together and let their performance sort them out!

Apply, and if you're declined, sue them, and I'm sure you'll win, and if not, you'll set a precedent and you can sue the nation for having a double standard, think you could easily make a cool million on the federal suit, maybe a free membership from the female gym suit... =)

Still worth a try.. =) Go for it. =)

All this reminds me of a story from back in high school. There was a girl in my class, a pretty good soccer player and vocal "feminist".

Well she fought and wined and argued until she was allowed into our boys phys ed class so she could participate in the same sports we did at a (her feelings not mine) higher level than the girls did. Well she got in and she was treated as equally as any other guy in the class and she played better than many of them. BUT this is where i got pissed off. When we are playing soccer/hockey/basketball whatever... She would have to have the ball 50% of the time. She hogged the ball and if you passed the ball to someone else then you were a sexist and you didn't pass to her because she was a girl. EVERYTIME! She was so blinded by her cause that she didn't realize all the other ppl on the team who wanted to play too. If she wasn't given the ball on every play she would claim it was because she was a girl, not because there was someone else open, and not because this was a class not a competitive game so we wanted to include others, even if they aren't "good" so they can play as well.
Fight for your rights but open your eyes to the BIG PICTURE.

I could, but I have more sense than that. It's their gym and they want/need it. A lot of women don't feel comfortable working out with men so that's why they're there. I'm not going to force myself into a place that doesnt' want me and I don't belong, I will just find my alternative (i.e. the YMCA or other unisex gym). The truth? I don't think that there's anything wrong with the womens gym, they should be allowed to have one, just don't take away my right to have a mens gym. It's a perfect example of looking at the big picture and picking your battles. Obviously not what these girls did.

The urge to do what she was told she couldn't or shouldn't blinded her to the simple fact that she wasn't even close to weighing enough to effectively play on a team made up of guys that ranged from 160 to 260 pounds.
Aren't most punters little guys?
Aren't a few running backs little guys?
Don't we have a few little QB's?

Surely they could have found her a task. Oh well... Atleast she didn't sue.
"Found" her a task for the purpose of satisfying... what? I suspect if she could kick or throw, she would have tried out for those positions.

This whole thing is stupid, these girls should be told to stop there fucking whining and go play on the girls team. But if the government wants everything to be equal. Then we shouldn't have girls only gyms, girl guides, brownies,Women in aviation, the 99's, scholarships for women only, different fitness standards for girls in school, different fitness standards for women in the military.

Why can't they get it, sometimes guys don't wanna be around girls, and girls don't wanna be around guys all the time, hense all girl gyms, all girl schools.

Boys Scouts are no longer "Boy Scouts" its just "Scouts," because some stupid girls wanted to join. But guides still stays only girls, although i would be very scared of any guy that wanted to join.

As someone earlier said.....woman are allowed in the PGA but men aren't allowed in the LPGA. Hey they want in the mens golf then they should just put the two together into a new league and not still keep there own.

Men should be allowed to have there own clubs/teams/whatever as women do. The only time i think women/girls should be allowed on the mens/boys team is if they don't have a woman's team to be on.

What a bunch of baloney! Mind you some girls can probably take a hit and some guys don't mind hitting or they could get used to it pretty fast. And So, they will have to make some changes to the game so it can be more girl friendly. Changes would be good, like no more dirty hitting, what would be wrong with that? Many people think professional hockey has become too violent. I think these girls will help the good, female hockey players to get better opportunities and maybe girl's hockey in general. I hope they make the boy's team but if they don't, maybe they can try out for a different, girl's *elite* team some place else, as I heard they have some.

So Chantal all those boys should have to change how they play there game just for 2 girls. Isn't that a bit selfish. You wanna join something and change how it is, either you join and play the game the way it is played or you quit. Don't expect the boys to change they way they play just because some girls.

Secondly.....so you believe that it is alright for all those boys who don't make the guys team to play on the girls team right. Ohya and i guess the girls team should have to change the way they play the game and make it have more contact in it. Right? Or do you think girls are better than guys and we shouldn't have to live by the same rules. Because whats good for one is good for the next.

And so you know chantal, woman are allowed in many professional sports that used to be all men, for instance Hockey. But Men are still NOT allowed in Womans hockey, LPGA, etc. I guess you think this is fair, this double standard. Hey if you want equality, then make it equal, open the LPGA to men and Womans hockey to men.

This issue is potentially divisive! (though it seems that most are in agreement) Anyway, to head off any potential problems:

I propose an AvCanada co-ed pick-up sports league! All welcome. Sport to be chosen by participants at time of game. I have a football and a soccerball, so I guess that's 2 footballs. Anywhere in the lowermainland is fine by me, preferance is to the east. (feel free to organise yourselves across the country as you all see fit) I have fridays and weekends, let's get to it!!!

Sounds good...I have a couple of basketballs and volleyball to add to the mix.

This issue has been around forever and will probably be around for the many daughters cpt sweet'njuicy is yet to have.

How many disney/after school specials have been done where the girl dresses as boy to play some sport?

The photograph was taken by a mate of mine who attended and shared some para drops with the Greek Army. The jumper with the helmet on is a female paratrooper. The guys are smart and place their helmets under their parachutes while they wait as it takes the weight off the shoulder straps.

And Guido, it is not fotoshopped.

Want to check the originals? Go to airbornesoldier.com and click on gallery and then general gallery on pages 1 and 2

South Africa has also started to introduce female paratroopers...what next?

Ah, ok, now I understand the intent behind the picture... I guess I still don't get why it matters, though. If she wants to wear her helmet, who cares? Maybe she's tougher than the wimpy boys who hurt their poor wittle shoulders  ?

I've never really seen the difference if men or women are in the fatigues... if they can get the job done, let 'em do it!

If you're worried about preferential treatment between the sexes... that's a whole other kettle of fish.

99% that men and women do not have assigned rolls in society. You are upset because you know I am right and it bothers you. You want to believe that no man will ever hold you back!....am I right :) this is yet another pure example of "give an inch take a light year" mentality....and it needs to stop.

oh my sweet and juicy captain, thank you for clarifying. All of my worries are now solved. I just need to submit to any and all men in my life, and my life will be fulfilled. It was just that silly brain of mine thinking all by its lonesome. Please tell me how to continue in order to fulfill my destiny.

On second thought, don't.

Women and Men are different, no one ever said they weren't. And I am thankful for that. Why is it, though, that one gender should limit the other? Let our own inabilities speak for themselves. I am physically weaker than you? Most likely. But they are many other qualities about me that you wouldn't know dick all about. You may make assumptions based on the little that you know, but that is all they are. And I won't repeat that tired cliche about assuming things.

Twin Winnipeg girls who won right to play boys hockey fail to make the cut

26 Sep, 7:59 PM

WINNIPEG (CP) - Twin girls who won the legal right to try out for a boys high school hockey team in Winnipeg have failed to make the squad.

Amy and Jesse Pasternak, who had played on community boys teams for years, called their school's girls' team a joke.

The 17-year-olds won a human rights decision Friday that allowed them to try out for the boys' team at West Kildonan Collegiate.

Both girls learned Tuesday that they were cut from the team.

The Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association had refused to allow girls from playing on a boys' team, but an independent adjudicator ruled that the policy was discriminatory.

Tuesday was the final practice for the West Kildonan boys' team before the final roster was set.

The twins had been skating with the team since tryouts started last week.

Yup...big shock! Cut from the BOY's team! The GIRL's team dont want them. U.S. universities have stated the twins are (were) good enough hockey players to get a free education...but not at THEIR universities! The national team coaching staff has stated..."they will pick up habbits playing men's hockey that will not be suitable to women's hockey...." So what did they get out of this? A reputation as a couple of "shit disturbers" is all. Might as well hang up the skates and invest the massive sum of money rewarded them by a bunch of "PC" morons! I guess they could get penis transplants? But hey, that's just my opinion.
