I just stumbled across this while looking up things on the net... someone is building an actual flying replica of the Avro Arrow, at 0.6 (2/3) scale.
"... a plan was conceived to build a smaller, but flyable Replica Arrow for airshow demonstration - not to prove or disprove the technology or performance of the original Arrow, or the right or wrong of the decision to cancel the Avro Arrow program - but to simply acknowledge Canadian aeronautical achievement by giving Canadians an opportunity to see the legendary Arrow fly."

I don't know about others out there, but I'm pretty excited to see somebody building this thing. It would be an amazing sight to see flying at an airshow. Wow.

I was in the museum at Downsview last week, coincidentally, the same day that they were having the grand unveiling of the model. We managed to sneak into the hangar where the event was being held. My first thought was about the size of the a/c - it's a large bird. The bottom of the hull at the nose gear is about six feet off the ground.
I found it to be a bit of a mid-60's time warp, though. The design is...old. It's funny to say that, as a few days later I was down in Hamilton, looking at the museum there, and was standing next to a CF-104...roughly the same generation of a/c, yet its design still looks current.
Picky note: It's not a replica - it's a model.
Overall, though, I found the model, while cool, a little depressing, in terms of thinking about what could have been for our country's aviation industry.

Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

I can't wait until I actually have time to make it to Downsview, I was going to try going for the rollout on the 8th but due to nightshift and an early thanksgiving dinner that was impossible. Having the Arrow around is great, shows what we can do in Canada if we are motivated and supported by the government (and of course what happens if the government stabs you in the back). Maybe it will inspire someone to attempt to build a major aircraft project in the future. Question for anyone that has seen it, is it possible to take a look inside the cockpit of the plane? And out of curiosity, this may sound stupid, but what's the difference between a model and a a replica?

As I see it, Greg, a replica is something that mimics exactly the shape/form/mechanical details/construction of the original, while a model sticks to the outside form, but has no details.
In this case, the model is made of rivetted aluminium over a square-tubed frame. It is a shell only - there are no internals, so a look inside the cockpit would show you a network of metal tubes, and nothing else.

When the FACKING gouverment cancelled this program they all should have been shot, the arrow was the most advanced intercepter ever built, nothing came close to it period. If we kept this bird going canada would have been and probably still be on top for building strong fighters but the FUCKING gouverment typically had there heads up there ass's and thought that they new best, until they realized that everyone else wanted it.
This is a very touchy subject as I am a very pround canadian avaitor and these cockbags took the most proud moment in my mind of any canadian engineer/pilot and trashed it, defenbaker can rot in hell for all I care.
