Delaying hire date at JAZZ

Post by blue-sky »

Just wondering if anyone knows if you can delay your hire date at JAZZ and if so how long after an offer can you delay it to?

When they call to offer you a course date, just explain to them that something has come up, and if they could place you in a pool. They have done that for numerous guys over the last year, so I can't see it being a problem.

There are a number of people named and numbered on the ACPA Seniority List (the company does not "own" the list) in the past many months, that were still at Jazz, and accruing AC mainline seniority. Some of them probably have still not arrived here, even since the last published list in January 2006.

There is an agreement in place, under specific conditions. The conditions allow a pilot to remain at Jazz, and retain an ACPA/AC mainline number.

This is not a blanket approval, and each request must be scruntinized according to my recollection, without a direct re-read, of the clause in the ACPA Collective Agreement.

I delayed a class date at the first company I worked with - not really tnhinking about the senority implications. Well wouldn't you know when I did the math later those who got in before me we're just senior enough to knock off my best vacation picks and some weekends off.

It might not make a big difference 5-10 years from now but 10-20 numbers will in the short run....Just food for thought.

And when it comes time to do layoffs....

That would be interesting in the Jazz/AC case, since they are not really at the mainline, not having completed the intake course, and are kind of between the two companies when their max extension time runs out -- particularly if the Jazz was furloughing too. I don't think that situation is specified. It's probably safer to commit one way or the other asap.
