Post by helinas »

Hi guys,

How long is a type rating valid for? If anybody knows pass it on, and thank you for the time.

You are full of questions!

Once endorsed a type rating is permanently on your licence. Of course you need to keep the PPC current to operate commercially. If your PPC lapses for more than two years then a complete initial course is required but you do not lose the type 8) .

I know, I am full of questions because I want to know as much as possible from pros like yourself. If the type rating is obtained in the U.S. how do you convert it to Canadian? I know, another dumb question but hey if anybody knows the answer great, if not make fun of me.

thanks

I've converted a U.S. type rating to my Canadian. I just walked into Transport and they printed me the license on the spot for $35.
I had my U.S. license with the type rating, a letter from my employer outlining the course and the exam results from the FAA.
I think I could have done it with the license only.
If you don't possess a U.S. license but do the training in the U.S. I believe you also need 10hrs PIC on type to convert. It's all in the CAR's.

It's all spelled out in CAR 421.40

421.40

The requirements to earn one are in paragraph 3.

Credits for foreign pilots are in paragraphs 5 and 6.

Anyone know how hard it is to go the other way and get a type rating on a US certificate if you already have it on a Canadian licence?
