hercpilot, as military pilot you are competeing with other military pilots for the same jobs at AC. As a practice AC does not select pilots strictly from one hiring pool or another. They take so many from off the street, so many from Jazz, so many from tier 2/3 and so many from other sources, ie: expat pilots returning home from working offshore. So, your field of competition is standing around you in the mess. You just have to look at the composition of each new hire class and this will be readily obvious, what is working for you is the Herc time, crew consept is everything in my book. On several ocasions I have worked with ex-mil guys the Herc guys tend to be the best, the fighter jocks, WELL!, lets just say alot of them just don't get it. One ex-major/squadron leader that I flew with was such a lone wolf that I had to read him the riot act twice in one day, and for the next two days I had to ride him like a rented mule. This guy had next to no team work skills, it left me wondering how he made it through line Idoc
Narrowminded generalizations. I am from a fighter background and I could say the best "crew minded" pilots I have ever flown with have come from the same background. It's also true that the worst crew minded people I've seen come from the Herc and civilian world. But thinking those traits are systemic of their backgrounds is simply not true. Fighter guys are not lone wolves any more than you are so try to keep an open mind. Could your preconceived opinion of fighter pilots have had anything to do with your bad experience?LuckyPilot wrote:hercpilot, as military pilot you are competeing with other military pilots for the same jobs at AC. thats sad to hear. I am an 06 hire, I think I am going to take the quickest emj upgrade in the next bid so I dont have to sling gear for these type of guys if they take it. When flying the 320 as a captain, I had an fo like that. He was not military, but tried to make it a one man show. Personally I didnt care, personally if thought he was the captain i could give a rats ass. Fly upside down in your seat, dont care. (la la la)He can even wear the hat if he was that much of a loser. I only had 2 rules when it came to these chumps, fine be a one man show. 1) i dont like paperwork, and 2) keep it out of the weeds, If i thought either of these 2 rules was to be broken I would put the guy in his place. The flight deck is supposed to be a really laid back, fun, team atmosphere. Dont these jackasses realize that working as a crew makes life much easier. Man we dont get paid enough to work hard. Rant over lol

Now I'm a fairly open minded person so I won't get into arguement over who or what type of pilot makes a good airline pilot. My particular experience with this individual was unfortunate and my only hope is that he walked away with some understanding of what he was doing was not proper, regardless of where and what he flew prior to AC.

You just said the key word...individual. It has nothing to do with where he came from. I've seen a few like him too from all kinds of different places.LuckyPilot wrote:"Could your preconceived opinion of fighter pilots have had anything to do with your bad experience?"
