CanWest Ad

Post by Captain Kangaroo »

Anyone know what above average pay means?

Also... maybe some insight into why they keep posting the same ad?

Maybe I'm missing something...

My guess would be that they have needed more than one new hire in recent times due to pilot turnover and corporate expansion.
If Magellan is right, the FO pay is better than what many other similar outfits offer. Not too long ago there was an operator who shall remain nameless in Alberta who paid Captains less than these FOs are making now.

35K eh?...hmm that’s good enough for me to send in a resume :)
How are they to work for? Happy staff vs miserable...
& one last question…what are the chances of advancement there?...do people generally move up quickly?

Jim is still CP and always takes the time to chat to folks who pop by. Advancment has happened for almost everyone who has worked there. Several people started as fuelers and are now Captains on the 200 as they prefer to promote from within. Every village has it's idiot but on the whole people there are good sh*t.

They keep reposting the ad huh? Maybe people are use to working for sub standard companies. Maybe that's why no ones applying. Sounds too good.

Son, someday you will make a girl very happy, for a short period of time. Then she`ll leave you and be with new men who are ten times better than you could ever hope to be. These men are called pilots.

A recent interviewee had nothing but good things to say about what they saw and heard at canwest, however, they seem to be holding out for some fairly high experience, which I certainly can't blame them for. It's seems the pilot shortage isn't that shortage...

Slave Lake is a little isolated, about 2.5 hour drive from Edmonton. Having said that, it's no where as isolated as say, Inuvik, Sioux Lookout, Norman Wells, Iqualait or many other places people may go to get their career going. I guess it's a sign that the industry is rolling along well if they are having trouble filling the position there.

Nope, YQT is a veritable metropolis. Sioux Lookout IS isolated, although a bustling community with all that needs to be somewhat comfy, or destroy yourself, depending on your inclination. Oh, and you think flannel and plaid are high fashion  :!:

Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is there either? They are constantly advertising for people. I know most of the pilots there including the CP and they are a good bunch. Maybe it's just the state of the industry....folks are moving along.

Good starting point for low timer. 10 on 5 off for FO's. Pay is okay too. Average for the MEDEVAC side anyways. Not sure about the Ho. Slave Lake wouldn't be that great to live at though!

The owner is a pretty decent guy; so is Jim V, and the guy posting the ad I've known for something like ten years and is apparently quite happy there. Of all the people I've talked to from there; if any thought it was a substandard company, nobody said anything to me about it.

Ahhh I believe you misunderstood my poorly constructed sentence. What was meant in the statement was that some, (not all) people may be used to working for sub standard companies. Therefore this particular ad may sound too good, and out of reach to apply for. Hence creating the necessity to write this thread asking about why the ad keeps appearing.

Please accept my apologies if you may have thought I was referring to creator of the ad as a sub standard. By no means was that my intention, nor my comment.
