WJ Pilot Hiring

Just wondering what is the latest with the Pilot hiring at Westjet.

I understand they have contacted folks for the Sept course but I was wondering if anyone knew what the plan for the rest of the year was?

Anyone been called lately for an interview?

Sept. 11th course is full, courses to follow are Oct. 03, and 23rd. Winter sked and timing of aircraft deliveries in 07 will dictate whether or not to run a course in November. 7 aircraft deliveries to hire for in 2007; so roughly 70-80 pilots needed for next year, similar numbers so far for 2008 and 2009

Where we at with Uprgrades? The number touted earlier in the year was min of 46. How many more this year?

Yes to both..interviews in person are weekly and phone screens probably every 10-15 days....

When I upload my resume to workopolis for westjet it comes out all scrunched up when you preview it! Anyone else get the same problem!
I am uploading a MS word resume. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Hi Hab It,

I had the same problem as did my friends. What we all did was just tried our best to re-align things to the resume after it was uploaded. I tried to upload an MS Word doc but the size was too big so I didn't.

All of us got hired so I guess it wasn't an issue. They also went through it with each of us on the phone interviews. I actually discovered a mistake on my resume when discussing it on the phone. I had proff read it a million times but still had missed it. It had to do with dates of previous employment. She said right away that it wasn't an issue for me.

what are the experience levels of the guys getting calls these days? 4000 plus?

I've been told they are hiring at the 4500+ experience level and a large percentage of the successful candidates are coming off of jets. I also heard a lot of their pilots are coming from Jazz these days.

I was at a pilot meeting yesterday and the current newhires have an average of 5400 hours. Yes they do like Jazz pilots but they still like to have a good cross section of people. They blend tends to be a few from Jazz, a few from heavy turboprop (the GGN/CMA types) a couple returning ex-pat jet types and 1 or 2 from the bush.

This was as of yesterday.

how many views of the resume did you guys that got hired have. I guess all you need is to have 1, but I have heard of some people having many more before getting an interview. And mine was also scrunched up when I viewed it online, but by the sound of it , it probably won't be an issue.

I got 2 views before called. Gina called to set a date up then the phone screen, then the interview, then wait three weeks. Everyone was super friendly and casual yet efficient. Scott and Dave and Gina ran my day had a tour too. Awsome people can't wait to hear back.

I didn't get a chance to ask yesterday but have the CJ pilots who are interested been getting hired at WestJet. There was a push from the WestJet pilot group to get management to hire them. (probably because a great many of us have been unemployed several times before)

First 2 CJ people have course dates in Nov. WJ has been interviewing about 2 CJ's a week on average.

Current plan. 100 aircraft by 2011... yet they are saying 15 years to left seat.

Do the math... With basically no attrition/retirements the only way to a left seat is growth. WestJet has approx. 60 planes. If you start tomorrow you will need westjet to basically double in size for you to see a left seat. 60 planes = 600 pilots = 300 upgradable FO's ahead and at 5 captain's per plane that's 60 more plane's needed for the newest hire to see a left seat

6 months ago you were telling all how great Jazz was and that everyone should work there... guess you figured out that you would be in the right seat for awhile there.

Same dealio with WJ, does this mean you are already unhappy with WJ too?

I just went for coffee with some friends and they were talking about someone who just went through the interview recently. When this person asked, they were told 15 years. Yes one five.
I've been at WestJet over three years and I won't see it for at least another year. My ground school was still told 2-2.5 years when I started. Myself, it would be nice to have seen it six months ago but I really don't care that much. However, I think with a few lost expectations in the crowd they are now telling people its a LONG wait.
Really, WestJet could have 200 aircraft in 10 years or they COULD be bankrupt by next spring. It's aviation... who the hell really knows anything.
