OK so what is so different about this crash from just about all the others?

Local guy from Western Labrador it appears. I have seen the A/C on the ramp at Wabush many times. I am sure you have as well Hawker Siddley.

The lack of information available is the difference.SierraPoppa wrote:OK so what is so different about this crash from just about all the others?

A really intelligent response not surprising.xsbank wrote:Pound sand, S.P.

I will agree to a point but I'm still disappointed in the response.goldeneagle wrote:The lack of information available is the difference.SierraPoppa wrote:OK so what is so different about this crash from just about all the others?
Most times when there is news of a crash with fatalaties there is an outpouring of condolences for the families of those involved even if names are not known.
This time virtually nothing?

I know that and you know that. Now we gotta educate the media.Doc wrote:First off. a PA23 is an Aztec/Apache, not a Twin Comanche.
The weather's been crappy here for a week. On the South shore, where the crash occurred, the hills go up to 3 - 4000 feet. Not a place you'd want to fool around in marginal VFR.

I just expected more sympathy for those involved and their families.Doc wrote:SP...why the dissapointment at the response? Usually all the "armchair quarterbacks" jump all over these things. I'd have thought the lack of response was due to sketchy info?
So, it was a twin Comanche?
It seems whenever there's been posts like this in the past there are numerous comments expressing sympathy and condolences very shortly after the initial post usually before any other info is available.
This time virtually nothing and I was disappointed and curious as to why the lack of response.
The response from xsbank was not totally unexpected and not at all surprising.
As to whether it was a Twin Commanche or an Apache/Aztec I don't really know, they are still reporting it as a PA-23.

Doc wrote:Some of you sure do like that "quote" feature. Okay, where would you like everybody to send their sympathy? You dont really THINK the family reads this site.....do you?
Nope don't expect them to. But perhaps someone who knows them does read this site and may or may not indicate to the families involved that the aviation community cares in some small way. Seems to be the case in other instances or at least no-one questions the expressions of sympathy then.
What's wrong with using the "quote" feature?
If it's not meant to be used why is it there?
Correct Type Designators from CARs Subpart 421 – Appendix A – 1. Aeroplanes (modified 2002/12/01):
PA23 Apache
PA30 Twin Comanche
PA39 Twin Comanche (CR)
PAZT Aztec
Note that a PA23 is not an Aztec! There seems to be some confusion regarding the type of aircraft involved. Anybody know for sure what type went down?

I'm pretty sure what you have listed from the CARs is the TC designation ie. for flightplans etc.
I believe Piper designated the Apache as a PA23-160, Aztec as a PA23-250, and the Twin Comanche as a PA30 or 39. There will be variations based on engine size etc. but generally this is correct. I was trying to find the Type Certificate Data Sheets for these as that is where the legal designation is found by serial number. Clear as mud, right?
