Perhaps all of the bullshit we have put up with was just a mere study in advancement of higher aviation education. Isn't that all aviation is?

Go do it until it hurts someone, make a rule about doing it, then don't do it again.

What are we going to do now? We're running out of new ways to crash airplanes, where will our lessons come from?

You weenies should read the article - 8 hours was already the maximum allowed and they exceeded that, breaking an existing rule. What they're really cheesed off about is that "lower levels" in the FAA approved it.

Specialty work is limited to 8 hrs at the controls here already. If you guys are so eager to work long shifts, you are part of what's wrong with aviation: buying jobs/low pay/looong duty days/etc. Flying regional in the US is nothing like noodling around in Canada.

Besides, if all you wanna do is fly, you need to get a life.

Firstly...
Have you never had a boring job? I have, and let me tell you...
Working 15 minutes and sitting for the rest of an 8 hour shift is hell. I couldn't take the stress. (yeah, stress)

Now I work at a place where you can never finish what you are doing before 2 more things are thrown at you, and its 10x less stressful.

Secondly...
The JetBlue pilots who participated in the experiment volunteered for the assignment.
When the (FAA) head office "became aware that JetBlue operated some domestic flights outside the standard rules, we immediately investigated and took corrective action,"...
Some of the pilots may have bitched, but I doubt it was the ones who "volunteered".

Read a little, and think a little. This isn't about pilots working long hours.

The difference is...sorry bud, but there is only one of you to kill. We have hundreds in the back, and I mean hundreds. Is it right?...yes, I believe so.
Have u actually sat and watched your instruments for 8 hours?...believe me its more tiring, stressfull, and dangerous than u might think.

Actually Buster,

I have lots of SPIFR time, all over the place, "watching gauges," and if you "have hundreds of people" behind you, YOU'RE NOT FLYING.... (turning heading/speed/Alt bugs aside)

I have crews of people below me who can be hit, crushed, knocked off a mountain, or otherwise maimed many dozens of times a day when a load comes in... A wee bit more likely to happen than having a pilot of a modern jet (or Ho)actually have to take preventative action to avoid disaster. Besides, there are two of you...:wink:

I just find it funny that something so relatively easy, such as flying IFR, is limited, where many other things that are much more demanding, are not. Don't get me wrong, those 10hr days are very lucrative... None of us wants to be limited to 8hrs, but the dichotomy is interesting.
