Hey Rocky, I'll go to bat for you!

In Rocky's defense, do the rest of you "radio experts" ever listen to the WestJet pilots blabber on the radio? A classic, that I've heard no less than 5 or 6 times in the last few months... "Departures, Westjet 77 is with you outta 4000 feet". Heard a controller respond one day.. "Westjet 77 YXZ CENTRE, go ahead?" "Yeah, centre, Westjet 77 is with you outta 4800 feet". To which centre responds "And your altitude climbing to?". Anybody see the problem with this? Right on the SID it says to contact YXZ CENTRE through 4000' while climbing to 8000'. So WJ, how about trying..."YXZ centre, Westjet 77 is with you through 4000 in the climb to 8000". There, is that so hard? Altitude leaving and altitude cleared to. I think there is actually something written somewhere about that... :-)

And another one of my peeves is.. "Centre, Westjet 77 is level 410, and it's smooth". Who gives a rats ass!!! The rest of us are taking a shit-kicking a mile below, but it's nice and smooth at 410, like it usually is, BTW.

So there, I've had my say. Rocky isn't so far off base after all. But still not the best way to break into this forum...

What a bullshit thread. Reminds me of that other Canadian airline that believes it owns the skies. Always has and apparently always will.

I had so much fun reading this. That Rocky kid got shit kicked.

Gotta agree, who cares what's said on the radio. Radio Nazi!!!
So everyone should be prim, proper, no chatter,, SOP's only, sterileflight deck, no fun, loser pilots

kiss my ass.

Go to 126.7 and listen to mp3's, conversations, jokes, and whatever else.

Same with ATC, I've heard jokes, conversations, even sports scores.

So get a life kid, learn to relax, and maybe grab a girl friend too.

BTW.... Where are you ya baby? To scared to come back to your own post? :smt117

i think proffessional radio work says a lot about a company. At Cathay Pacific radio work is judged when you get line checks. They want to portray a good image. They want to be judged as a worldclass leader and strive for that.Although i dont think that the phraseology at WJ is bad,ive heard a couple people that sound like they barely speak english.

Never had an issue with any WJA pilots regarding anything phraseology wise. Always professional in that regard.

Dpig some day when you fly an aircraft that goes to 410 or higher you will understand what the signifiance of a smooth ride and the consequenses of a not so smooth ride are.

D Pig, I normally fly at 410 and higher. It's not always smooth. I actually like WestJet giving reports of a smooth ride, I then know what to look forwrd to as I'm in my climb.

One that bugs me is when guys add an "S" to their callsign
ex: "Canadas 1234"
How many planes are there?

for @#$! sake you so called "radio expert" moron get a life... I've heard a ton of guys talk on radio frequency about getting jaccuzies and entertaining their wives... I was flying on through VR Harbour's airspace and they had nice piano music on... i think the girl was on a bathroom break.

Now if you're telling me that you never messed up a radio call, then i think we should nominate you for the order of canada, perhaps our G.G. could come and slap you in the face for being a retarded citizen, thus a fruit cake in canadian aviation.

I raise my Bull Shit flag on this thread right here... what a nice first post u got going Rocky, and your so called defense partner "mr.pig"

Now as a tribute to your picky attitude, identify how many words i spelled wrong here and let us laught at you even more.

I am still waiting for a reply Rocky to see what the right way of phraseology is... I mean if a guy is flying 737's he has obviously done something right when you compare him to you.

How come i don't see an Air Canada or a Jazz or what ever other airline guy sitting here complaining about how retarded west jet is with their phraseology.

Take your trollish behaviour and go elsewhere, we don't need a 10 year old teach us how to speak on an ATC Channel; at least not in comparison to a 737 flyer.

Ride reports on initial contact AT ANY ALTITUDEs are a good idea - just keep em short and sweet! Nothing worse than the blattering idiot tying up the Freq with an unsolicited LONG ride report while ATC is in the middle of life saving vectors for traffic!

I can think of worse offences than those already mentioned. If your company insists upon using a 4 number flight number, then perhaps they should pick more than just 2 numbers to make that combination out of! If the math is too hard for that, then for @#$% sake LISTEN to what is said CAREFULLY.

Now to be SERIOUS, how does one get those smokin avatar's added???

OMG your insults are as equally degrading, boy toucher and what other retarded things you've got going on.
You arent me yet kid but its a start
As far as i know, you're the only person here trying to hit on him...

No offense there buddy, but seriously... If a person's first post is about bad mouthing West Jet and their phraseology, i am not looking forward to what's coming after that.

That being said, i do realize that we've all been or some are still noobs and have pissed a lot of people off, my self included; it's perhaps the attitude boy touchers like you juicy established in return to our threads to get us all wild to get edgy with this rock head... but that still doesn't mean that you sign up on the forums to ramble an ass parade on how much west jet pilot suck at talking on the ATC channel...

Family guy ;) it's in your "Profile" go to the section of avatar and place in your picture, needs to be within a certain size.

LOL that is so true, i just feel like singing on freq when they do that lol... I've even had TML guys and tower guys get really ticked off with those people and started a good "ass parade" totally owning the person who was like that and told them to not repeat it again "please" I don't know where those people get their ROL. Perhaps you mistook those with WJ pilots Rocky  Then i am all for ya.

Feck ya - who cares about proper readbacks and comm procedures...

Sometimes if I'm getting pissed of at ATC with all their restrictions and vectors I like to just turn my radios off, dial 7600 on the box and go direct to my IAF. Beacon inbound my radios magically kick back in and I call short final. "Sorry tower we'll get that checked, have a great day"

Man it's so much easier to listen to my MP3 when i can ignore that constant radio banter!

From the ATC standpoint, the best thing any pilot can do is say:

"ABC Center, Westjet 898 Four One Zero, Smooth"

I disagree

I happen to like

"ABC Centre, XYZ we'll cancel the IFR at this time"

Seriously though, even though it's not mandated I like to hear what altitude you're out of and what you've been cleared to. If you want to throw something else SHORT and concise in there such as: smooth, light chop, we have X that's fine as well. There's nothing worse than the guy who doesn't listen for a few secs cuts in over somebody and then goes on for 45 sec saying nothing.

"Center WJA123 at 41 oh, smooth and we'll cancel IFR now".....

THAT would be interesting :D ....and worthy of comment....

does WJ fly into any uncontrolled airports where they just join the circuit LOL ?

but seriously though, don't they cancle IFR when they fly into places like Kelowna? I was under the impression that ATC keeps them IFR but tells them to descend via visual referance if the weather is proper... any clarfication on that...

A lot of the big airlines aren't allowed to Cancel due to insurance purposes, much like taking a VFR departure. As far as descending via visual reference not quite sure what you're talking about here but I think you may mean a visual approach. Aircraft calls the field in site. Reported weather at the station is 500' above the Min IFR or Vectoring altitude..... fill your boots you find your own way to the airport. You are still an IFR aircraft just flying visually.
