The last big "wave" was around '95, '96 and '97, then it died quite a bit, then after 2001 aviation went into one of its biggest slumps in history... the wav picked up again over the last couple years as the economy grew and some baby boomers retired, but now the wave has crested and it will likely go down. The only question is the speed at which it goes down.

Aviation is a very cyclical industry.

Take that BP report with a grain of salt. While oil prices are dropping now, their forecast is inaccurate, intentionally. Too many organizations profit from an energy crisis. A crisis that's serious enough to maintain high prices but not enough to abandon oil, or other fossil fuels. That way they ensure civilization remains connected to the wells for as long as possible.

A message like this is to discourage people from investigating other sources of energy. A reassurance that things will return to normal. BP used to be British Petroleum, now it's Beyond Petroleum, that is a very PC name, but don't think for a minute they won't prolong the oil dependency for as long as they can.

The only reasons oil is decreasing in value is that hurricane season is over and none hit the US, and air conditioner/vacations season is coming to a close. There'll be a drop in price until winter heating/ vacation travel season fires up.

That's a very negative attitude you have there doc. Time to renew the prescription on your meds, or get laid or something.

There was an interesting item on "The National" two nights ago about how the housing market in the USA is starting to crumble. If it really tanks, then their economy will follow, and so will ours. Who gets laid off first? Pilots.

We're not tied as closely to the US economy as we used to be, that said I give the current hiring wave one year. As usual, there will be exceptions. Maybe this time the slowdown will be gradual with fewer layoffs unlike the last two times.

I cant believe some sort of recession has happened yet. Im not an expert on this but prices on alot of things have gone up and up and up. How people can afford to live these days is insane. Ill be moving back home for the winter...Im almost scared to move out again!!

I work at a golf course and the lady who manages the club house makes 15/hr she runs a tight ship. I know her husband makes a good dollar, but remove him and what is a wage like that? Then there are the labourers who work for 9, middle aged guys/single fathers...its crazy. So the price of living keeps moving up...and employers are still out there nickle and diming hard workers. meh I just cant understand it. Maybe Im out of place to be making that argument as I dont know much about this.

Im from just north of Toronto and the past 5 years...houses continue to pop up....areas always being developed. If anything I think it wont stop if immigration continues. Thats not a racist comment...these areas are very very diverse in culture/ethnic groups (so I assume immigration). I dont think that will drop off, but the avg joe...working for peanuts and living paycheck to paycheck...cost of living going up mixed with cheap ass bosses...wouldnt this type of scenerio bring on a recession eventually? mehmehmemem

Yes, oil is down a little. However we are only in mid November and the oil patch is busy as hell already.

OH $HIT! We've got less than a month left  ! Anybody got any bullets? (I'm trying to go the quickest way). However...I hear CO2 might be most painless.
Anymore predictions, Einstein?

It's CO, not CO2 that you're thinking about.

In the midst of forecast doom and gloom, there is a glimmer of hope!!!!
While pilots speculate on their fate within the industry, one lone pilot wannabe expresses concern - not only for himself, but for his mates!

C-HRIS writes: "It CANT stop until me and all my fellow co-workers are off the ramp. "

I have to admire that after spending 13 months on the ramp, he's not complaining - rather persevering and he's looking out for others on the way.

With that kind of positive attitude C-HRIS, I am sure your perseverence will pay off. Good luck...

Thanks Snoopy. I'm actually no longer working in cargo and have since upgraded to a flightline position. Hopefully the good times will continue!

Interesting to see the music stopping thread.

http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopi ... 54&t=89518

Reminded me of this one from 2006.

I think DOC was a couple of years early, but there was a slowdown in the economy in 2008 which involved the US housing market as NorthShore pointed out. I didn't realize there were indicators as early as the middle of 2006.

It will be interesting to see how the next couple of years plays out and reflect on the new thread as well.
