The wonders of AVGAS
Fueling a Navajo today pilot ordered full all tanks. Well, he had only been flying for an hour so not much fuel was burnt. I had finished the left inboard/outboard and was moving to the right. Started to fuel the right inboard when a Piaggio lands. I watched it land and by then I had overflowed the tank (by less than a litre). 100LL trickled down the wing onto my jacket. Oh crap... not! The stuff evaporates so fast and leaves no smell on you. I cant even tell where the fuel went.
Heres to AVGAS, the fuel designed with the rampie in mind. I hear you can even use it to clean airplanes. JetA on the other hand, get 1 drop of that on your clothes and you reek for days.

It only takes AvGas if you don't like your job and want an easy way out. Yes, 100LL can be used to clean airplanes, nothing works better on the black stain left behind from the exhaust. Also, unless it happens to be a cheyenne which takes jet fuel, the aircraft has a very large supply of the cleaner, eliminating the need for a spray bottle or other source of cleaner.

Definetly a navajo. plus the thing said AVGAS only and had a small opening which a J-spout would never fit into. Gave you guys quite a scare eh? Yea its AVGAS in a TURBINE, will work but will wear engine more but Jet A in a PISTON is BAD BAD BAD.

good stuff
yeah, avgas rules. I use it to clean the plane, put it a sprayer and go nuts. Also have used it to get tacky gelcoat out of my arcteryx jacket, oil stains out of jeans, lighting fires, mixing drinks, etc
Ever warsh your balls in 100LL?

I've been told of a near disaster when a fuel guy at an unnamed airport wasn't paying attention and filled a Navajo with jet fuel. The pilot was standing by the plane but failed to notice the decals on the truck and the fueler didn't pay attention to the decals on the plane...The plane took off suffered engine failure but successfully returned to the airport. pilots and PaX on board.
Always make sure whats being put in your plane!

HEY GUESS WHAT!? Low LEAD means there is Tetra-ethyl lead in that shit. Don't ever touch it, don't sniff it, don't even look at it!

I think it happens more often then we care to believe. I was in Fredericton NB about a year ago with a ho and they tried to fill us up with Jet-A.

Lead is deadly, no doubt... but you may be overstating the case just a touch.
In the forties and fifties lots of people used regular leaded gasoline as normal parts-cleaner, using their bare hands.... my father and brothers included.
Teenagers stole gas for Saturday night by siphoning it.... and you know exactly how they got the siphon started, right? If you were real careful you might get a mouthful only every second or third time.
Perhaps it is genetic....
....or perhaps it is just that it wasn't done every day, so that they didn't qualify as "long-term", or as "high levels"....
...but some of these people even lived long and healthy lives...
In any case, I don't worry too much about a little spill on my clothes or a quick sniff of the fuel-sampler.

I remember when I was about 8 or 9 I was fuelling one of those big above ground tanks with 100LL... my stepfather in the fuel truck was getting a little impatient and turned the PTO up a bit.... it was enough to cause the nozzle to lift up and give me a good soak...
I was good until I got to the ground and then I loudly proclaimed "my bum is burning!!!" Luckily, It was mid October in the far north, ice already on the lake but still open at the shore.... I got cooled off right quick.
I think the second Avgas bath I got was when I was around 17, I was removing the nozzle from an old fuel hose connected to an old fuel tank. I thought there was no way that tank would be full of fuel, and there wasn't a spigot on the valve so I assumed it was closed... Ever try to screw a nozzle back on a 3 inch hose that is gushing Av? It doesn't work, far more effective to kink it.
And from all my siphoning experience: I had Av (or might've been regular) come out my nose once... I tell you that will clear your sinuses.
I now stay away from open flames and smokers, just in case
