Navajo Capt. and Co-Joe Pay...

Post by RadMan »

I've searched the forums and can't seem to find a previous post, but if this is a re-hash then I'm sorry.

I was wondering for you Navajo pilots out there, particularly in Ontario, what are the payscale for both Captains and particularly for Co-pilots, as well as how busy are you guys on average (flight hours, XXX days ON, XXX days off, etc.)

Thanks in advance.

a navajo co-pilot typically makes $18-30,000, and capitains typically make $20-60,000 a year. But as most people have indicated, some of these jobs are done for alomst nothing, or actually nothing.

Thanks, but I was hoping more for company specifics if possible, such as $60 a day base plus 6 cents per mile, etc, pilots averaging about 50 hours a month", and so forth.

Sounds like it just might be easier to go on a road trip around the province and find out who's hiring first. If you are picking and choosing based on wages alone, you aren't going to find much. Hell, you'll be lucky to find a flying job!

I've been trying my best to hock my wares as a potential right seater, and right now I'm just focussed on trying to find a potential employer. Get busy, and start doing some legwork for yourself.

But I will stress this: I WILL NEVER WORK FOR FREE

Max,

I have a job. Part time Navajo co-pilot for a new start up. Part time until the business' client base grows.

I also have inroads with another company that is more established.

I'm just curious to see what typical pay scales and flight hours are for this type of position to see where my situation stacks up. Unfortunately my boss has requested that I not share salary info with anyone, so I cannot post it here.

I'm not looking for people to ID what company they work for, but am curious about how things are setup. Reply if you feel comfortable answering my questions, don't if you don't.

You say you won't work for free, but let me pose a more interesting question, will you work for less than min wage - ie $7.15 (in Ontario)+ vacation pay for every hour you commit to the workplace, answering phones, cleaning shitters, flying, etc? I've seen pilots work 60 hour weeks and get paid 1600-1800 per month. They aren't working for free but is what they are doing any better than those who do?

Gees MAXEGT, Buddy's just looking for a little advice on the job market and pay and you stomp on him :? I would argue he is doing research before going out on a road trip or doing legwork thats what these form are all about. And WTF why are you trying to hock yourself as a right seat guy. dont you have any ambition, what a 172 or 206 is to good for you ? And point of order you say "get out on a road trip around the province" Ill asume your refering to BC, Get the hell out of BC go north or out on the flat lands work ramp. The BC market place blows for low timers.

RadMan, I cant tell you specific company by company but your on the right track as I stated before get out put your time in and have a better attitude than MAX EGT and you should have no problem "hocking your wares"

Whoa! Where did that come from?

Post by MAX EGT »

Now hang on a sec, who's stomping on who here? I didn't infer that anyone is lazy or should get anyone else to do some legwork. Perhaps I misconstrued the question posed, but I've seen a lot of the same stuff posted over and over. My appologies for any misunderstanding here.

RadMan, that's awesome that you at least have something on the go. I've been doing my best to find something, and haven't had much luck. It's always a question of who you know, and timing. To answer your question: yes I will NOT work for free. I'm aware of the low wages and comparisons to minimum wage or less. I guess it depends on how much you love what you do. It sucks that we are faced with the grim reality of piss poor wages, after dropping an estimated 40-50k! However, if you got into this business strictly for money, you might want to reconsider your options. It's the individuals who will do ANYTHING to get those hours (including working for FREE, or PAYING to fly) that ruin the value of a pilot.

., I think you've done some good stompin' too. Everyone has freedom of speech here, that's okay. But don't tell me I'm limiting myself too much after looking for a right seat job. Yes, the BC market is saturated, but I've also looked outside the province. I've missed out on some oportunities due to timing... end of story. 172 or 206? Sure, I'll go for that too, but I haven't struck oil yet! So don't bust me in the chops about looking for a CoJo job, I'm looking for other stuff too (including non-flying positions). Once again, sorry if any comments got misinterpreted.

Always,

I see. I whole heartedly agree. He doesn't want myself and the other part time cojo to talk to eachother about our salaries.

That doesn't sit well with me. If you can't be upfront then by default you are trying to hide something. Divide and conquer...

As Jack says "this is good as it gets!" 1200-1500 a month is reality in aviation at the bottom. (some higher up with years of experience will work for it too)

Hey Sorry Max EGT, It just seamed like you where knocking the guy for asking a question, telling him to do his own legwork as if he was doing something wrong. Ill admit I like taking the piss out of people and you may have caught me in a bad mood. How are things at the Old ZBB seen any good meetings of runway and rubber lately. I heard Centenial was bought out by Regency  they use to be at least a respectable school  anyway keep trying you'll get something soon 8)

We're paid base plus mileage. At this point I'm doing 130-150hrs a month. 50k+ on the year won't be a problem with the way this summer has gone. I'd trade 10k a year for ten days off a month.
