Thompson

Post by Reality »

Thompson is not an ideal place to live because of the alcoholisim, crime, remotness etc. but the entire province is just like Thompson. Take Winnipeg for example. You will not find anywhere else in Canada with the flying oppurtunity's or rapid advancement though like Thompson. If your willing to work hard, keep the complaining to a minimum and take care of your airplane you will be here today and gone tomorrow where-ever you want to go. The attitudes of alot of pilot's coming into the workforce these days is poor, there work ethic is terrible and they think the world owes them something. This does not apply to everyone, however it is probably 75%.

That is a dumb thing to say because social problems are not the reasons people don't like Thompson. People don't like Thompson because it's small and boring and it's freezing cold winters.

I think Thompson needs to stop the racism problem because who the heck wants to go someplace like that, look at The Pas.
Thompson will never get the tourists and the people it wants if it they don't shape up. I don't think Rex Murphy is going to bring them in either. He was there recently, doing a radio show, mostly about all the Newfoundlanders who moved to Thompson.

Pilots might be glad to know there is no west nile virus there.

Chantel, I have lived in Thompson for 8 years and the crime litter alcoholisim is a big problem and a big reason why Thompson has the rep it has. This is not a racial remark, at no point did I refer to the problem as being confined to one particular race. The fact is there is a big problem in Thompson and when people talk about Thompson the points are raised of the alcoholism, crime, poverty and litter.
Give your head a shake if you think it is boring, there is just as much to do here as anywhere else in any community north of the big cities. How long have you lived in Thompson and where do you get your info from? Thompson get's 10,000 + tourists every month in the summer, I think that is pretty good. Why don't you talk to some buisness owners in Thompson and ask them how many tourists they have in the summer.
Thompson does get cold but the cold snaps are usually not to bad and are brief, Turn your heat up!!

Highly doubt that there are that many tourists there. Summer is too short for that many tourists.
Hmmm, I know alot about Thompson because I been there many times,
knew people from there, and had family there one time.
Seems like you don't know what you are talking about. Let's see if you know this, what was the old name of the grocery store that is in the Plaza?

Thompson is the service centre for Northern Manitoba
so everyone has been there for something ie. to see the doctor, go to college, or for shopping, hockey, insurance, auto parts, etc.
........broke up with my b/f there :(

thompson is the HUB of the NORTH, everything and everyone passes thru thompson. even when you go to churchill to see the white polar bears, on the way back the plane stops in thompson so the passengers can be screened. all freight and goods pass thru thompson. as for tourist, that is why all plane companies are based in thompson because it is easy to fly t the lodges.
most days in thompson you can't get a hotel room because everything is booked. it is quite the place and lots of people pass thru there. we travell 600 kms round trip from the KINGDOM to shop.

OK Economy Do I get a prize now???? or did you think it was Shop Easy.

Just cause you fly in there a few times and got your ass kicked to the curb there doesn't give you the right to disway people from moving there. I only lived there for 8 years but like I have said before IT WAS THE BEST 8 YEARS OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!

Good for you spillvalve, if you think living in the freezing cold is great, but don't pretend it is. I was asking Glock17 the store question because it was Glock17 who was asking what my information about Thompson is, so I thought I'd check his first. Now I'll have to ask Glock17 something else. Oh and spillvalve, I kicked him to the curb.

endless, Don't get jealous because someone asked me, $*%&!

Glock17, what was the name of the Ramada Inn before?

To say Thompson does not get many tourists is a very unknowledgable remark, I deal with them and see them all year even during the winter months its obvious you are very un-informed and don't know the community. Obviously a fly in fly out observation. Anyways the comunity does have alot to offer, Anyone ever remember the Harvest house 8)

Hum Thompson...

Post by Rudder Bug »

I was there for a week, troubleshootin a Navajo waste gate. One week before, I was assaulted and suffered cracked lips and a bleeding nose in Gillam by a guy from Thompson. The only time it happenned to me in my whole life. I did nothing to him, I was just white.

What are the tourists looking for out there while the rest of the world is waiting to be seen?

I've also seen some tourists in Georgetown, Guyana. Another wrong place to go. They don't stay long after they find out.

I bet that's not the reason he picked on you.

FYI, lots of Indian guys get beaten up too when they visit certain places/reservations and Towns. It happens to girls too. Why do you think that happens?

Hey Chantal,

I've been around in that life. I have awesome Native friends, doing and knowing things beyond imagination. I met with wonderful chaps in Thompson too. Thanks to them, our aircraft finally got going.

I was just meaning it's just another hole from my point of view. I just don't like the place.

Sorry if it hurted your feelings. I would not spend a week in Thompson for all the gold in the world.

Some have the same feeling about Yellowknife. Not my cup of tea, period. It might be a great place for some but not for other ones. Just a matter of taste, no more.

Cheers

Nope, I'm not in Thompson but in BC, watching the rare snow falling.

Hope you are fine!

It's not. You can get everything you need there, and then some..

But unless you're from Manitoba, it's a long ways away from anywhere, it's miserably fargin cold in the winter, and not a day goes by where you're not witnessing social issues that you can't do anything about because nobody who can make a difference seems to care...

It's not a bad place, but for some, after a few years, it's just depressing.

I've lived in MB, but never in Thomspon. I've flown in and out, so I don't know anything about the town itself.

All I know is that MB alltogether can be taken off the map for all I care. Just keep the french quarters of winnipeg, and move it to...let's say, hamilton.
