How old are you? It was the time. Would they be as big today as they were in the 60's? Probably not. But nobody else ever will be as BIG as they were in the 60's. It was something we'll probably never see again. But, to ask if they "suck".....They didn't suck.......Not even close! Our tastes change, is all.

sorry i just don't see thier goodness......apart from teh messages they sent.....peace and love.....etc....

I am a big fan of music from that era.....clasic rock, blues etc.... but i just can't like the beatles......perhaps they are over palyed on classic rock radio in Ottawa or something.

I am in my early twenties btw.....

I don't believe music made now is any good either...as i am a fan of older music.....just never understood the beatles....and today was a dedication to them....all Beatles all day on the radio.....drove me nuts......

Some of their music is well written, but some of it is so terrible that to put them at the level people do is just wrong.......but that is just one mans opinion.

The reason that it was a day dedicated to the Beatles, not just in YOW by the way, is that today is the 26th anniversary of John Lennon being gunned down in New York.

To the younger crowd it probably means nothing, but to others it does.

Do you remember where you where 26 years ago when you heard the news? I do. I had just stepped off a flight from YOW-YVR, my first visit to the coast. Hard to forget. :( :(

Playing pool with the barmaid at the Montreal Interline Club.

I was always a bigger fan of the Rolling Stones than the Beatles. Not because of their antics or anything, but I just liked their music better.

Yeah I know, it's sad but good people die everyday.....regardless, says nothing of the music.....but whatever.....

Examples of better records.....

Street Survivor's - Skynard
Houses of the holy - Zepplin
any Gordon Lightfoot album
Black Sabath - Sabath
Any rolling stones album

The list goes on.......and on.....but it is mostly personal opinion i suppose.

There is no doubt that the Beatles were huge, and they sure recorded a few good tunes, but I remember them mostly as "screaming girl" band, like say the Bay City Rollers, who came along much later, and are thankfully forgotten in the mists of time.

You almost have to regard the Beatles as two bands.
1 The later drugged out band that did most of the cool stuff.
2 The early "Backstreet Beatles". Not so cool.

But I'd still take the Stones over either one.

Flying an aircraft and building a guitar are two things that are easy to do bad and difficult to do right

JIMI HENDRIX, Zepplin, Leppard (Pyromania, Hysteria), Bob Marley,
The Jeff Beck Group, B. B. King, Bob Segar etc... etc... It doesn't get better than the old school stuff!

P.S. That group that sang "Hotel California"

The Eagles.

As for the Beatles, cut them a little slack. When they first got started none of them could read or write music and McCartney was brought into the band because he was the only one who knew how to tune a guitar. Their early music was pretty bare and simple; most music in the mid sixties was, but as they matured as musicians and song writers, their songs improved. Sounds like a normal evolution to me; not everybody is Mozart after all.

Thanks Shitdisturber... The Eagles is correct. Have you ever heard the Bob Marley version of "Hotel California"? R.I.P Paul McCartney. He was a wondeful musician. Just damn good... It would be a sin to hate that guy...

You're welcome, and no I haven't heard Marley's version; it'd be interesting I'm sure. I'm just waiting for Madonna to do a cover of it so I'll have irrefuttable evidence that there is no God.

The most correct statement made on this post is that it is personal opinion. I personally think the Beatles are one of the greatest bands of all time, they experimented (with music...) and revolutionized it (not to say that others haven't as well). Another thing you have to consider is that most of the bands from that time period actually had talent. Now, anyone can sing and it can be edited to sound allright, back then, you had to actually have a voice, and know how to play an instrument. Thats just my opinion.
