New name for YWG
It's now...Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson Airport. Actually the first time a major airport hasn't been named after a politican.
Re: New name for YWG
Nope, not really. We did have an airport named "Stevenson Field" in honour of pioneer aviator Fred Stevenson. Of course this was the very same Winnipeg airport which was known as Stevenson Field until 1958!mikegtzg wrote:It's now...Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson Airport. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you!

Didn't you really mean to say:

To all the 'Peg bashers, how about it being the best income to cost of living ratio for a large city in North America, how about it being the gateway to the most prestine waterways in the world, how about no perpetual endless summer smog, and no 3 hour commutes from downtown to Surrey (my favorite place), how about it being the live music capitol of Canada, how about I bought my 2000 sq ft house with swimming pool in a top neighborhood for 130k...have fun buying a shack in Calgary for 250k or VR for 500k. Any other locals care to add?

Joe to Go, what did you end up paying for that kind of place in YYC? (if you don't mind the personal question).
Winnipeg gets bashed by lots of pilots. Sometimes it's because lots of pilots fly in here, and stick around the airport area for layovers or whatever. The airport is surrounded on 3 sides by industrial parks.
Winnipeg has great restaurants, parks, architecture, culture (sorry YYC), friendly people (not when we drive, I know), music, the best urban forest of old elms in the world, and an interesting history.
We have four distinct seasons, which is a really great thing, especially if you try to live in a place like Vancouver.
I bought a really nice place (not 2000sq ft, and no pool) here in a really nice neighbourhood for 135k. If you do a search on MLS for a comparable place in Toronto, Calgary, Montreal, Vancouver etc. etc. you will find nothing. If by some chance you do find something, you will live in Cracktown and you will get shot on the way to work.

I dunno you don't think Norwood Flats on the river is a top neighborhood?joe to go wrote:For BBA, I was looking at homes in YWG, (before i bought one in YYC) about 2 months ago, and i too was looking in the 2000 sq ft range in nice neighborhoods, and they were all 225 and higher. Maybe your definition of a "top" neighborhood is different than mine.

Not to get off topic on the Peg bashing but I believe they named it after James A. Richardson the founder of Western Canada Airways, and not James A. Richardson the Politician. Richardson was by far the leading Pioneer in Commercial Aviation in Canada.
