Straight to Class I?

Recently wrote my AIRAT and got 90%.

The person at TC said that they thought that I could therefore do a Class I ride and completely skip the Class II. I don't think this is correct, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer in the CARS.

Personally, it doesn't apply because I do not have the instructing hours to hold a Class I but I am interested in finding the answer.

Also, what differences between the Class IV and Class II ride are there in respect to the ground instruction portion of the flight test?

The CARs specifically say you need to have held a Class II Instructor Rating - Aeroplane at some point in the previous 12 months before getting your Class I. The following is the reference:

421.72 Class 1 - Aeroplane - Requirements
(1) Prerequisites

An applicant for an initial Class 1 Flight Instructor Rating - Aeroplane shall have held a class 2 Flight Instructor Rating - Aeroplane during the previous 12 month period and meet the following knowledge, experience and skill requirements.

you won't have to write the Class 1 written...the 90% mark on the exam you just did will cover it. You will have to do the Class 1 ride though.
(You'll still have to become a 2 first though...you're exempt from the exam - that's it)

The class II ride gets more into supervision of Class IV's and they expect you to be somewhat of a competent instructor by then as well. Go by the standards guide, it's self explanitory. Like I have said before it'll be the easiest flight test you will do yet. Mostly because you have been doing the same thing every day teaching as they will expect on the flight test.

I really didn't think that it sounded likely.

As a matter of fact, until the lady at TC asked about it I had never even considered the possibility.

In a way it would make sense if you could do something along those lines, because a person could technically do a Class I flight test as soon as they finished the Class II ride.

As long as they have the required hours, which I believe are min. 500 instructing for a Class II and 750 instructing for a Class I.

My Class 2 ride mostly dealt with the duties and responsibilities of the Chief Flying Instructor. My Class 1 ride was heavily oriented towards teaching the flight instructor rating.
