Miles O'Brien
In 2005, O’Brien covered the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina along the U.S. Gulf Coast with live reports across the region.
Additionally, he has covered such stories as John Glenn's return to space on Oct. 29, 1998, during which he shared the anchor desk with broadcast news pioneer Walter Cronkite. Poor decision making in my opinion. This happened on Nov 17 2005 at Fulton County Airport in Atlanta. Good weather with reasonably light winds out of the northwest. They chose the shorter 4157 foot runway 32 to do a deadstick landing on. It appears that their flaps are not fully extended either, no doubt to minimize damage on landing
Notice how far down the runway they touch down and how close they come to the end of the runway. See link for runway diagram. Make sure to look at the picture of the airport to see the dropoff just beyond the runway. If they were familiar with the airport, I'm sure not all was calm in the cockpit as they approached halfway down the runway still airborne.
I wonder if that was their maintenance base.
