NACair

Post by Zyxt »

Anyone heard of this company? I've applied for a first officer job there, expecting to be a ramp rat in Red Lake or Sioux Lookout to start. Are they good? They're based out of Thunder Bay and apparently they're 100% first nations owned, and specialize in airline service to first nations communities in Northern Ontario and Manitoba.

Do they have a good rep?

I've heard nothing but good things about them. You fly good planes, you will fly a lot, and at the moment upgrades are quick. I hear they are expanding into YTH too in the near future.

I have a couple of friends that work there.

Great company, they treat their people really well. They just built a great new facility and there is talk about a further fleet expansion.

Good luck on getting that F/O job.

Ad explains it... we have 4 bases, Tbay, Sioux Lookout, Winnipeg, and Thompson..

Great place to work at... We fly alot, mostly Sched, long days and hauling bags... We fly to mostly northern, remote communities, gravel.

Fleets consists of 12's and King Airs..

Recently Changed our name to NACair from North American Charters 2000, and built a crazy new hangar in yqt...Expanding and needing more pilots...

1000TT hours or more is preferable, that way once you get 500 on type they can upgrade you (if you're ready). I believe to apply for a direct-entry captain spot the insurance requires 2500TT and something like 1000 hours of northern time. I'm not 100% sure so don't quote me.

Merry Christmas!

I wanna see how NAC survives on the same routes that PAG flies. Unless they've got some great strategy and have done alot of homework I don't see it happening. A metro's operating cost is too low and PAG's just too prominent and established. What will capacity be on NAC's routes?
It will be good to see some competition up north but, like I said, I am interested to see how long NAC shows its presence.

Good to see that NAC is moving into YTH, I heard the rumours of a base, but I guess it is now confirmed. Hopefully it works out well for them, Perimeter needs a good run for there money in Northern MB.

Has NAC added the PC-12 or King Air to the YTH base? Are they just going to YBT and ZWH out of there or are they competing with Calm Air YTH-YWG?

Not planning on competing with Calm Air or Perimeter on the YWG-YTH runs, just focusing on Northern stuff. As for hiring minimums, the reason we didn't post any minimum hours for F/O is because there are none, other than what we specified. We're keeping our options open, and going to see what kind of resumes we get. We're not planning on hiring any direct-entry captains unless absolutely necessary (which is why we only posted F/O spots), but it's entirely possible that folks with good experience will be upgraded VERY quickly once we see how they perform in our environment.

Good luck to all who are interested, and Merry Christmas!

Swerved.

I doesn't hurt to try, I've been in to every community up there and heard from more than one of them that they aren't happy with the level of service from PAG. That could be the typical never happy with what you have syndrome though.

What does quick upgrade entail? Just wondering what kind of time someone already with time on type would be looking at for an upgrade on the 12. 1500 hours, 2000 hours, 2500 hours?

Just curious what a quick upgrade is.

A quick upgrade at NAC with time on type isn't that long right now. I can only use our current situation as an example but we just hired a guy with time on the PC-12 he came to us in December with approximately 1700 hours, and will be heading to Florida for upgrade sim training in January. He's only been online with us for a month, and has proven to the people here that's he's a very competent pilot and will make a good captain in the future.

It all depends on your ability to prove to the decision makers that you are a competent pilot who can make good decisions in tough situations and don't operate the a/c in a cowboy or unsafe manner. I believe with us adding 3 a/c in January there will be a immediate need for captain upgrades, some of those will be filled by internal upgrades but not all of them will be, so if you've got time on type, you may end up in the left seat pretty quick here if you've got time on type.

No it doesn't but if the company starts to stretch itself too thin too fast it could be a slide towards the wrong side of the balance sheet. Hey, Skyward and Perimeter had a good run together for alot of years so who knows hows it'll pan out. Maybe instead of making many tens of millions a year, PAG will only make a few tens of millions.

As far as the passengers being happy or not, to tell you the truth, I'm really not that worried about it. The better service you give the more they'll expect. Drive if you don't like the service.....oh wait....you can't!!!!
