More avionics questions...

Post by bass »

So what is the general consensus? Is it easier to get into this industry as an "E" tech or an "M" tech? I realize that you get more bang for your buck with an "M", but with everything going electronic will the airlines be looking for more "E" guys???

Go for E if you have it

E licensed guys are far fewer than M. Good one to get into, if you understand electronics well.
We need more good avionics guys

I think it is a good choice to go to school for Avionics and once you have your License take the ACS course for Mechanics and then get your M also. Having both you will be open to both paths. Just try getting on with a small company that lets you do M tasks as well as Avionics so you can fill up your log book.

I always had more jobs available and better paying jobs as an M apprentice than as an E. If you get your M1 M2 and take a manufacturers course saay from Collins you have the training you need to sign out E tasks on the equipment you are trained on same as an E AME. If you want to do transponder TCAS or Nav systems ramp tests you can get specific training and do these tasks as well under your M license. The AMO I am currently working for does this for M AME's. The E license carrys only one benefit the lack of type endorsement restrictions. M license is better for the bottom line $$.
