I totally agree with you there. In aviation you start low, but there are more opportunities as you gain experience. Upgrades, better companies, bigger A/C, Better $$$,and Benefits, etc.
At Subway, it is more or less a dead end venture. After 10 years there you would still be making 30K, (I don't know what their scales is like,I really don't care). Yes you can start at 16 but where do you go after, McDonalds? Unless you opt to buy a franchise (you need some smarts to do that) there is not any real future there. In aviation there is. You can't compare the 2
Having said that. I agree, it is sad that after all that trg, we have to start so low and have to put up with so much. I hate to say it but we did it to ourselves.

so put on an apron and get to workDoc wrote:I'm thinking more along the line.....They saved 45-60K by not requiring a MIFR!! No approach bans! They don't need medicals. They don't have to deal with TC! They can start when they're 16 years old, and ski on their days off! Makes me think THEY are the smart ones!

Holy cow, this subject is like asking about training bonds.
Its simple economics, supply and demand. There are too many guys that want to strap on the epaulets, not enough people that want to make subs.
Did anyone do any due diligence on the pay scales for flying jobs? Anyone who did proper due diligence before going to flight school should have realized that it is a long hard road to a decent salary, or if even possible.
Bottom line is if you don't like what you are making, make a change. Just because you invested x dollars into flying lessons, does not make it a wise investment.
No disrespect intended, just the opinion of one of the many who have made more than one bad investment!

Yikes! Totally depressing. Makes me want to quit and get a good paying job so I can buy my own little plane, maybe a luscombe or a super decathlon, that I can fly on my own time for fun. Coke delivery in Grande Prairie is about 6 grand a month to start, no experience necessary, and water delivery (5 gallon bottles) in Fort McMurray was 4500/month to start. Each with benefits and such. F*ck motherf*ck!!!

I just want to know what the hell are you doing in these "TOP DOLLAR PAYING OIL PATCH TOWNS" delivering beverages.
sorry, off topic.
HAHAHA!!! With respect doc are you drinking a lot now or something? You do post a lot about this subject.Doc wrote:I'd be willing to bet, the Subway guy would only hit the "submit" button once?

Yeah I earned low wages for the first 2.5years. I lived to tell about it. I just enjoyed the job so much the years passed fast.
Now just put on a bit of sub sauce for me ok?
That'll buff right out

I'm not 100% sure about what is happening in the Subway Sandwich shop these days but I do know that Kelowna is the second most expensive place in Canada to live. Rental accomodations are virtually non existent and $30,000.00 a year ain't gonna get you squat here.
Comparing Sandwich makers and Commercial Pilots is like apples and oranges. At least with the Commercial Pilot there is a chance to go out and make a livable wage.
And for the record, I am happy that these kids working in places like Subway, Timmy's and the like are finally making a bit of coin. Given the right motivation and a supportive family these kids can help cash strapped parents by saving and helping out paying for some or all of their own post secondary education.

Easy fix....don't work for free, don't pay for training and don't whore yourself out...everything else will fall into place.
Now...where are those slippers. Ah yes ! Here they are!

Star sings for Moscow billionaire
George Michael has just completed the British leg of his tour
Singer George Michael has been paid a reported £1.5m for an hour's concert at a Russian billionaire's New Year party.
The unnamed businessman paid for Michael to entertain his 300 guests on his private estate 20 miles outside Moscow, the star's spokeswoman said.
The fee is believed to have set a record for a concert in Russia.
Michael and his entourage were flown in on a private jet and despite being reported to have had "fun" he was back in his London home by morning.
The host is believed to have turned his sports hall into a nightclub especially for the party.
Michael, 43, has just finished the British leg of his Twentyfive tour which included a free concert for nurses in London.
Other stars who have picked up big cheques include Christina Aguilera, reportedly paid £1m for performing three songs at the wedding of Russian oligarch Andrei Melnichenko in September 2005.
$3 million US for 1 hours work
I wonder what the pilot got for the 5 hours of flying he did, taking them to and fro.

I was a sandwich artist for ~ a year.......
The pay sucked so bad....maybe I should have moved to Alberta.

You paid for your flying job? I used to suck dick for coke. Now that's an addiction. You ever suck some dick for a flying job?

This is just my 2 cents (I know, it wasn't asked for, but thanks to the wonderful internet, you get to listen to the kid give his opinion!). First, if a Subway worker is making $30 000 that has to be about the max salary possible, whereas a pilot, though he/she may pay a LOT of money at the beggining, it seems that if you are good enough and work hard enough (and know the right people) the money will eventually come. Second, I know there are good days and bad days, but would you really rather make sandwhiches all day rather than fly (or fuel or maintain for that matter)? I worked at Timmie Ho Ho's for three years, even if they offered me double what I make as a fueler there is no way I'd go back (even though it would help out for a/c maint college this september). When I decided not to go to University last September and I "withdrew" the week before classes started, so many people told me it was a great decision because you have to do what you enjoy. Being a history teacher or whatever I ended up doing with a History degree may have payed better, but I'd rather work with planes
