impaired driving

Post by Canyaker »

Hey guys,

I got an impaired driving charge 7 years ago, I'm planning on doing my cpl this fall, will I still be able to get my license? I've heard a couple different things so any info would be great.

Apply for a pardon

It will take a while so wont help in the short term but will may help in the future.

Some applications used to have a question like do you have any criminal offences for which you have not been granted a pardon.

An impaired that old should not affect you at all. After 7 years, even your auto insurance company doesn't hold it against you (afaik).

As for a pardon, you can go 2 ways; Pardon Services Canada, you give them a pile of money and they do all the legwork, OR, you go to your local courthouse, get a pardon application and follow it step-by-step. It usually involves getting fingerprints, a police report, court records and sending it off to RCMP in Ottawa with a cheque or money order.

You should get a fancy paper in the mail about 8 months later. Well, not too fancy, it's not like you're going to frame it and hang it up.

IMO, Just do it all yourself and save the money that you'd give to PSC.

Then, if you do fill out an application that asks about offences, you can say no.

Will you still be able to get your license? Why the Hell not? I know of a couple dozen who have done just that and I trained at least five of them over the years. You think those at MoT are Tibetan monks or something? In my hamlet I can name two in the Inspector category who have had convictions for DUI and still go to work each morning at MoT doing the same thing they have for years. Next, I'm going to hear someone state that if I contravene certain sections of CARS, my auto insurance will go up.
