E.I. Question
Here's the question.
If a person is on E.I. and they decide to fly to Hawaii for the week and they choose not to inform the E.I. personal at employment canada, will "the man" find out that he left the country?
???

Unlikely you would get caught as long as you SHUT UP!
If anyone knows who West Coast Swell is you might want to pass up the temptation.
Most people who get nailed cheating E.I. get caught the following way:
Guy goes to bar. Guy brags in bar to buddies about getting E.I and working/vacationing at the same time. Buddies all agree how clever he is.
One of the buddies goes home and tells wife how clever Guy is.
The next morning, over the breakfast table Mrs. Buddy points out to Mr. Buddy he isn't picking up a double cheque/ pay for vacation so why should Guy?
After three days of being nagged by Mrs. Buddy and having the prospect of jerking off for the next two months Mr. Buddy listens to his "conscience" and calls E.I. with all the gory details.
Guy the clever gets screwed.
The End.
Unless things have changed a lot, and I doubt they have, E.I. would not have access to Customs (passport) information.

I'll just tell them that I'm leaving for a week.

You will get caught. When you claim any goods on the return (or even none at all) your travel info passes through the UI offices. The best advice you can get is to talk with your UI councilor!! He is a pilot's best friend!! Tell him flat out what your plans are and they'll help you out.
From my experience I just delayed my claim when I went overseas. It doesn't reduce your weeks of entitlement, so you basically pick up where you left off! Thats WAY better then lying, getting caught, and then paying them a year and a half later!
