The New Canadian Rant
My name is Norm and I AM CANADIAN
I am a minority in Vancouver, Toronto and in every casino in this country.
I was born in 1958, yet I am responsible for some first nations people
being screwed out of their land in the 1700's.
I pay import tax on cars made in Canada.
I am allowed to skydive and smoke, but not allowed to drive without a seatbelt.
All the money I make until mid July must go to paying taxes.
I live and work among people who believe Americans are ignorant yet these same people cannot name this country's new territory.
Although I am sometimes forced to live on Kraft dinner and don't have pot to piss in, I sleep well knowing that my taxes helped purchase a nice home for some unskilled refugee.
Although they are unpatriotic and constantly try to separate, Quebec still provides my nation's Prime Ministers.
95% of my nation's international conflicts are over fish.
I believe that paying a 200% tax on alcohol and cigarettes is fair.
I believe that the same tax on gasoline is also fair.
Even if I have no idea what happened to that old rifle my grandfather gave me when I was 14, I will be considered a criminal if I don't register it.
I believe spending $15 billion to promote the French language in the
rest of Canada is fair when the province of Quebec doesn't support or
recognize the English language.
I believe that paying $30 million for 3 Stripes ("The Voice of Fire painting in Ottawa) by the National Art Gallery was a good purchase, Even though 99% of this country didn't want it or will ever see it.
I believe that even if I take home a third of what I actually make, I say "Oh well, at least we have good health care, roads, educational system and law enforcement because of it."
I believe I must bail out farmers when their crops are too wet or too dry even though I don’t control the weather.
My national anthem has versions in both official languages and I don't know either of them.
Canada is the highest taxed nation in North America, the biggest Military
buffer for the United States, and the number one destination for fleeing
terrorists.
I am not an angry white male. I am an angry taxpayer who is fucking broke.

Guess incu's post was right on the money...

So? The problem with being a minority is what, exactly? Besides that, I wonder what the First nations that you are mentioning below think about your presence here - now that they are a minority in their own land...I am a minority in Vancouver, Toronto and in every casino in this country.
Sure, why not - you've benefitted hugely from said screwing.I was born in 1958, yet I am responsible for some first nations people
being screwed out of their land in the 1700's.
Nobody can stop you from doing any of these things - just when you do so, you lose the right to complain, in any way, if bad things happen to you.am allowed to skydive and smoke, but not allowed to drive without a seatbelt.
Well, below you said that you only take home 1/3 of your pay - so, which is it? Or are you full of it? More on this tax thing later..All the money I make until mid July must go to paying taxes.
Err..that'd be Nunavut - pronounced 'Noon-a-voot' not 'none-of-it.' Now that we are done with that, get out a piece of paper, and - without looking - write down all 50 states. I defy you to get more than 40 without outside help.I live and work among people who believe Americans are ignorant yet these same people cannot name this country's new territory.
Well, get off your fat ass, and vote for a non-Quebecer, or get involved yourself and run for office, or join a political party and try and send someone you feel comfortable with to the head of your chosen party, so that your values (such as they are) can be debated and found worthy of running a country.Although they are unpatriotic and constantly try to separate, Quebec still provides my nation's Prime Ministers.
Well, don't pay them then. Stop drinking and smoking, and walk/ride your bike/take the bus to wherever it is that you are going a few days a week - that should save you a bit..I believe that paying a 200% tax on alcohol and cigarettes is fair.
I believe that the same tax on gasoline is also fair.
Not that I'm a huge fan of the registry myself, but isn't responsible gun ownership what it's about in the end? Perhaps yu can explain how, exactly, you are being a model of this, when you can't find your firearm. The National Firearms Coalition should be stringing you up for this too!Even if I have no idea what happened to that old rifle my grandfather gave me when I was 14, I will be considered a criminal if I don't register it.
As above, is it 1/3 or 1/2? Or are you just ranting, and pulling numbers out of your hat? Besides that, given that you drink, smoke, don't exercise, participate in high-risk sports, and are nearly 50 - I'd say that public health care is a pretty good deal for you. Take your stats down to a private insurer in the US, and see what they'll charge you for medical when they take the above into account.I believe that even if I take home a third of what I actually make, I say "Oh well, at least we have good health care, roads, educational system and law enforcement because of it."
Well, the thing is, even if you don't care about them, they care enough about you to work really long hours at a dangerous and poor-paying job to make sure that food is on your table three times a day.I believe I must bail out farmers when their crops are too wet or too dry even though I don’t control the weather.
Weren't you just ranting about people not knowing the name of our most recent territory? I think that the national anthem was changed something like 20 years ago...My national anthem has versions in both official languages and I don't know either of them.
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Sure, out of three countries; one of which is pretty much a third world nation, and the other isn't nearly as far behind us tax wise as you probably think - they just spend it differently.Canada is the highest taxed nation in North America,

Ok, Incu, here's the rest.. Btw, 'we'?? I guess that as a person with 4 posts to your name, you are well qualified to judge the collective mood of the AvCanadians..
) it's not or we'd be seeing a lot of WWE and country music as the high-water mark of art...
Also, we spend a huge amount of cash on all sorts of other public exhibits that only a fraction of us ever see? Ever been to the War Museum in Ottawa? Thought not.
While we are on the subject of the military
More innumeracy - $30 mill? According to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_of_Fire it was only $1.8 - still a lot, I have to admit, but not quite $30. Also, the value has gone up since the purchase in 1990 - perhaps that is where the $30 figure comes from? If that's the case, then we've done quite well on our investment, no? Besides, who, exactly, is the arbiter of art in this country? Some 50 year-old redneck writing a derivative rant based on a beer commercial? Thank God (gratuitous religious reference for head-in the clouds .I believe that paying $30 million for 3 Stripes ("The Voice of Fire painting in Ottawa) by the National Art Gallery was a good purchase, Even though 99% of this country didn't want it or will ever see it.
Source? Judging by the past playing fast and loose with numbers, this could be out by a large factor, but I'll take it at face value. Over what period of time? Way back in the day the government decided to make Canada an officially bilingual country, and so we spend money to that end. What's the problem? Funnily enough, there have been several changes of government since then, but none has seen fit to reverse the policy of official bilingualism. Why is that? Are the governments out of step with the mood of the country? Or is it that Norm is a little out of step? I'm not exactly familiar with the laws in Quebec, but I'm not sure that you could boil them down to "doesn't support or recognise the English language." IIRC, even Gilles Duceppe and Jeean Charest have been known to speak English on occasion in public..believe spending $15 billion to promote the French language in the
rest of Canada is fair when the province of Quebec doesn't support or
recognize the English language.
So?? Most people, I'm sure, don't mind paying their taxes, as long as they get good value for them. If you want a lower tax regime, then move to one of the other two nations on the continent, and see what you get for your cash..As mentioned by Coster, one is a 3rd world country. The other? Well, the other is pissing away borrowed money in a foreign sand pit at the rate of about $1000 a second. http://costofwar.com/index.html How long do you think that those low taxes will stay that way?Canada is the highest taxed nation in North America,
While we are on the subject of the military
there's a money pit if you ever saw one. The biggest military threat to Canada is, and has always been, the USA. We've already fought one war (1812ish), and have had another one threatened ( 54-40 or fight.) What would happen if we decided to sell off our oil to China instead of down south? How long do you think the invasion would take? Could we, no matter how much of our budget we spent on the military, ever hope to catch up?the biggest Military
buffer for the United States

Yep ,been to the war museum [ thanks Vets!] and aviation museum [Merci Buckets!] and nat gallery ..when I had little cash from the wet coast
..my conclusion is that they should give free transport to all sites so the poor lost populous can view their tax moneys in faster hands than theirs
ie the nat gallery had a massive room with a stupid ships hawser laying on the floor- I gave it a whip and the guards got nervous
I have exibited world class art ceramics at fienza [ according to them
] but I dont ever expect to see any of my work in the nat gallery and I am not sure I would allow it ..
cc its the system y'know?

North Shore 657 post and if you reread a small portion of them the logic doesn’t change.
To compare the money spent on The Voice of Fire Painting to the money spent on the War Museum is a perfect example. Yes I have actually seen the painting and have visited the War Museum. Both stir up very strong emotions. I won’t try and explain to you what they are, but will tell you they are different, in case you can’t figure that out.
You support spending to date 15 billion Canadian tax payer dollars to prop up a dying culture, I don’t but as long as there are enough MP’s in the province of Quebec to make it worth while for the party in power to pander to, it will continue.
You don’t mind high taxes wasted on programs we all know about and I won’t take the time to highlight here. Just on a side note in 2006-2007 Quebec received 5.53 billion tax payer dollars in equalization payments dollars. Your lovely province received 459 million. Only two provinces in Canada didn’t receive any. Those two are Ontario and Alberta. One of those two one has a labour force that works longer hours and contributes more to Canada than any other province. Guess which one that is I’ll let you and your logic work on that. (Hint, most call it the red neck province)
Unfortunately there are too many people in this country who don’t care how much they are taxed, who spends it, or how it is spent as long as they are included in the hair brain social engineering projects that look after them from the cradle to the grave.
I’m not one of them. But I am a Canadian and I will continue to voice my displeasure with the theft waste and corruption funded by my tax dollars even if some of you won’t.
As for being invaded by the USA. Again sorry pal you lost me. Must be that old logic thing

Not to mention your money goes into a government cess pool of bureaucratic drones in Ottawa who after skimming enough money to support themselves waste the rest on reservations where the money gets wasted by Indian mirror images of the drones in Ottawa." I was born in 1958, yet I am responsible for some first nations people
being screwed out of their land in the 1700's "
While the racist system promotes human misery in the form of drunkeness, disease, incest, drug abuse and abject misery.
The only silver lining in the reserve system is the tens of millions of dollars that go to supporting the aviation companies and the pilots and mechanics who make a living out of the Indian business.
Yup, only in Canada.

Another logically challenged poster. Niss here is a definition of culture for you.
A learned behavior of people, which includes their belief systems and languages, their social relationships, their institutions and organizations, and their material goods - food, clothing, buildings, tools, and machines
Doesn’t include any reference to killing people to have a learned behavior die out.
Niss you are an idiot for suggesting it does

I believe spending $15 billion to promote the French language in the
rest of Canada is fair when the province of Quebec doesn't support or
recognize the English language.
The official language of Quebec is french, they still have La Carnival d'Hiver, and a rich heritage. They have St-Jean Baptiste day, and many concider them a proud (albeit distinct) part of Canada. They are not a dying culture, it is alive and well. It is only the will of ignorant hicks such as yourself who choose it to belive its a dying culture in the hopse that it will be one one day. Your definition of culture matches exactly what is going on in Quebec and you choose to use it against my point? You sir, not I are the fucking idiot.A learned behavior of people, which includes their belief systems and languages, their social relationships, their institutions and organizations, and their material goods - food, clothing, buildings, tools, and machines
My point was about killing natives would be cheaper than protecting their culture for the sake of those who still live by it was in response to you using a condition of confederation imposed by the french population and granted by the fathers of confederation as a political lever. You incorrectly maintain that the Quebec culture is dying and theirfor it would be the financialy prudent to phase it out of the rest of the country and save ourselves a few bucks. Ergo if you dislike the fact that the natives recieve a substatial amount of assistance from the government, then it would be easier and cheaper to kill them off then prop them up.
Incase there is any ambiguity on your part, I am not French, I am not from Quebec. I am a proud Canadian who chooses not to blame my woes on the minorities of Canada. I am proud of our rich heritiage consisting of but not limited to the French and the Native cultures.
I hope that this post wasn't lost on you, but if you need help just get your mommy to help you with all the big words.
