Wondering what the personal experience requirements are for an AME to start an AMO? Any info, comments or opinions on this subject are appreciated.

(1) Subject to (3), persons appointed pursuant to section 573.03 of the CARs shall meet the following standards of competence:
(a) except as provided in (2), they shall have acquired a minimum of six years experience in the performance or direct supervision of maintenance activities of the type undertaken by the organization, at least six months of which shall have been obtained within the preceding two years;
(b) they shall have achieved a grade of not less than 70% in a Transport Canada multiple choice examination on the Canadian Aviation Regulations applicable to a Maintenance Manager;
(c) their personal record in relation to aviation shall not include;
(i) any conviction under Section 7.3 of the Aeronautics Act; or
(ii) any combination of two or more convictions on separate occasions, under sections 571.10 or 571.11 of the Canadian Aviation Regulations.

(2) In the case of an AMO not holding an aircraft, avionics, engine, or propeller rating, the person appointed may have less experience than required by (1)(a) provided the certificate holder can demonstrate to Transport Canada that the lesser experience is appropriate to the scope of work undertaken by the AMO. The amount of experience required will be determined by the complexity of the work undertaken by the organization, but in no case shall be less than one year.
