Landed Centre Line On To First Job

So I landed my first flying job! Just to excited so I had to post.

I'll be flying the Citab and Pawnee starting May 'till the snow drops at the SOSA Gliding Club in Rockton, Ontario as their full-time Tow Pilot. With only 170hrs of Power flying, 100hrs PIC, I'd say thats not to shabby.

This job though it's un-paid (non-profit club) I figure will be very benificial in terms of 200hrs PIC by the end of the season and all tail time experiance. Couldn't get any better than that .... well .... pay I supose :lol: .

Just curious, How far off am I from getting a ski/wheels job for the winter before the float season comes up? I figure I will have about 450hrs TT (300PIC [200 of which on tail] ). Better than where I started thats for sure ... but how much better?

Oh I've dreamed of flying that beast of a bird.

It's got all the right curves in all the wrong places. :lol: That and I have the 235 or 265 engine at my disposal. (The Citabs Hopped up to 180 just as a side note aswell....)

Congrats Adam...sounds like some good stick and rudder flying.

It sounds like a skill they should be paying for, though.

I've got some glider time behind me, so I know the limitations of the "box" ... differance being judging that from the front this time when it comes to chopping. Lots to learn, and I'm sure a very different feel to flying.

Still figuring that out.

This is a very nice gliding club where I have complete kitchen, lounge, and washroom facilities. Oh, and a beer fridge with a registration "C-FRIG" labeled on there @ $2/Cold One :lol: .

It's loaded up with trailers and I happen to have a buddy of mine that has aloud me to crash in his trailer for a few months. Yes it is a trailer, but hey ... free accomodations.

I'll be hooked up to power so it won't be so bad ... that and theres a wireless 56k connection somewhere around the field...if all fails for internet I'm sure there's a coffee lodge in town.

It will be the first time living on my own, so I'm thinking a petty job working at a grocery store (A&P open 24hrs a day) could be convienent for my trips in to town for food and laundry.

Flying from 10am-6pm on weekdays, so a job from 9pm-12 I could suffice with. I've got money saved up, so about 10hrs per week at min. wage on the side will damper the loss on the bank account a little. (Roughly $280 Income monthly)

I've been asking around how much the cost of "living" is. Here's my number crunching monthly....

Insurance: $246
Gas: $60 (It's a 4-banger :P )
Cell: $40
Laundry: $25??
Food: $300?? ... am I guessing too much here?
Hydro: As used $??

Let me know what it costs you a month for you to live.

Congrats man. Now, not to burst your bubble or anything, but that is not a job. A job is something that you get paid to do so that you can afford to live without relying on the generosity of others. Your job will be what you do to earn money.

Glider towing is normally done by club members who volonteer and they have fun doing it, on top of building good time.

This is far from prostitution, it is a great activity.

Well excuse me for being a "prostitute". You clearly do not understand how a gliding operation works. Not to burst your bubble, but jobs do not have to entail money. I'm sure if it was a commercially run operation that actually had revenue, they would pay. Simple as that; they are not. That's the layman's terms of a gliding operation. If you would like to know more I'd be glad to answer your questions.

Just for you I'll call it a "Flying Gig" shall we? Also if you want to get all technical on words...Prostitutes get paid....I think you are looking for the term "slut" :wink:

I am very happy to see you get this opportunity, and once again you will love the Pawnee, I brought the first 235 HP Pawnee into Canada from Florida for aerial applicationin 1961 or 62 the registration was CF-NVY.

Congrats Adam!

I spent a bunch of summers towing gliders in Europe and Canada!!! Had a great time! Sure it will be the same for you! The pawnee is a great bird (had a 265hp too)! And the life in a trailer can be exciting!

How do you think the transition from the citab to the pawnee will be? Fairly quick to wrap your hands and feet around?

How long of a haul was that? By any chance seeing as your talking about ag work and your user name is Cat Driver ... you ever fly the Ag-Cat? Another bad-ass plane I would love to fly.

Adam, the Pawnee is a dream to fly its just a big Super Cub.

No I never flew the Ag Cat in the ag business I started on the J3 Cub and progressed to the Super Cub, Citabria, Stearman, Pawnee and finally the Hughes 300.

The name Cat Driver comes from flying this.

Shouldn't be a problem... The pawnee might be a bit more demanding sometimes but once you feel the aircraft everything will be ok!

Lots of room for your feet in the front!

Don't knock trailer life too quickly.

Don, I don't think you've seen the trailer I'm staying in.

I'm pretty sure I can knock it....I've stayed in it for the past 3 years for over 2 weeks each year. It's do-able, but this is no trailer that you are thinking of.

It's more a camping trailer as opposed to full out living facility. Not meant for the long durations.
