Lots of guys make careers out of fire-bombing, but not at that cheesy rate. Conair pay is at least double that! I hope that is for a very junior, first year wage, but its still awfully low. No wonder there are vacancies.

Seems they're looking at those guys for right seat just north of 1k/wk....that to me is low, but more reasonable than door #1 offer. Fully agree though, no wonder they're looking for Cap's. LOL!

Hmmm.... $1070 - $1270 weekly..... that's $55640 - $66040 annually.... and you basically work from April to September (6 months).... by my calculations that's $9273 - $11006 per month worked.... you're free to do and go wherever you want for the other 6 months.... not bad if you ask me.... but heh, what do I know?
Oh yeah, that's for Co-pilots.... You can do your own math for Captains....

Based on that yur in 45% tax. Not to say it ever happens......a -2 driver does much the same, collects EI, collects some cash thru the winter just cause he's a nice guy ;-)

No offense and only outta respect for what it takes to get LS-415, they aren't offering enough for the blood shed......as has been piledged to death here on other threads, it "IS" what it "IS".

We all love it - is why we're here :D

Based on a near lifetime involved with other Ontario public service plans - "nothing" - would have been FAR better to invest in my own portfolio.

Regarding teeth, perhaps - but then again, my dentist gives far better rates than those charged to "the plans" ;-)

You're right Paciflyer.... "It is what it is". Unfortunately, I don't know any operators with -2s that pay in the vicinity of $10,000/mth with benefits. Each to their own but sounds like a good gig to me. :)

Don't forget to add in the overtime cash as well. First of all Conair does not pay twice that amount. Ontario also gives 4 days off every 10 and brings you home for your days off plus the winter off. Why don't some Conair guys chirp in here and tell us about their work schedule and how many scheduled days off you get for a summer contract or how often you get home in a summer.

If you don't like what you see on the job ad, don't apply and I also suggest you find out how the pay structure works before running off at the mouth. There's alot more to it and the working conditions than just a weekly salary.

I'll chirp in. I think you guys have a good thing going over there. Let us know when they hire someone from outside the outfit for a captain position.

There were a few people interviewing for the captains spots this past week that were from outside the company. Find out in a week or so who gets what. There are a lot of experienced F/O's at the MNR so I would think it unlikely for someone else to be hired, but you never know.

There you go - case of beer says they will not hire an outside captain. They are required to post, like they did for their last chief pilot position, but they promote from within (which is not a bad thing!) but put on the pretense that they want outsiders (which is not a good thing).

I doubt they choose to post outside the company when they have the talent they need internally, and I don't think their intentions are to fool anyone into applying just for shits and giggles.

Government jobs - they can't just anoint the candidate they want, they have to interview outsiders to show that they searched for the best candidate. They will write the ad so that you need "1500 hours right seat in a 415 with fire experience in Ontario and particularly near Dryden" so that the only one with the experience is good old Bob.

I haven't had to pay the beer yet, so I guess the bet is off?

Don't forget "must have Bob's DNA" :o As for the beer, I don't know if the positions have been awarded yet.

How do you explain then that our last two previous Chief Pilots were hired from the industry.

Why would we ever hire direct to the left seat of a 415 from the outside when we have all the talent we need sitting in the rights seats waiting to move over. If you want to be a Captain on a 415 get hired to fly a Turbo Beaver. Afterall isn't that how pretty much all the industry works. Can't remember the last time AC or WestJet hired direct to the left seat of their biggest equipment.

CLGuy, so what is it? Inside or out? I understand that the CP you hired in about 2003 was an insider, no? Do you go through that many CPs?

I stand by my posts.

Yep the last one was an insider but like I said the previous two to him were hired from the outside! You make it sound like only insiders get the job and I was just explaining that is not the case.

Mr. Guy I agree with you completely. However I don't remember the last time Air Canada or Westjet advertised for captains for their largest equipment.

Yes the Pilot/CO Prgram was cancelled early last fall. All the pilots as you stated consisted of two positions.

Forest you are correct in regards to AC or WestJet advertising for Captains but unfortunately we are under the umbrella of the government and that is the government mandate to advertise all jobs available in the civil service.

I thought you had three positions, Dryden, Cochrane and Kapuskasing. Did they sell the Maules and the Beavers?
