Two videos here:

First, a sub-par landing in a sub-par-spot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qiycvReJJM

Second, a sub-par takeoff attempt from a sub-par-spot introduced in the first video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYpDXdQzHTM

These videos came from this user: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=brinleypeck who apparently uses this 600' ditch as a "base" of some sort. Seems to have "one too few options" IMO... or am I just a little too cautious for my own good?

You should be able to get down and slowed in 600ft EASILY.. however.. getting out of that 600ft ditch doesn't appeal to me at all.. Nor would I ever want to try it.

Me thinks those folk are CRAZY!

Second video is labelled as a "taxi test", not a sub-par takeoff. In any case, it looks like he was taxiing a smidge too fast to turn around at the end and elected to scrape some rocks rather than flip.

NO, I'M NOT AN AVIATION EXPERT, ...... BUT THAT IS A TEXTBOOK EXAMPLE OF HOW NOT TO DO A STOL APPROACH OVER AN OBSTICAL. STALLING THE PLANE IS NEVER A GOOD IDEA. AND I WOULD LAY MONEY ON IT THAT 90HP CHAMP, WITH NO FLAPS EVER FLEW OUT OF THAT SPOT!

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no

After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

I wonder if the poster isn't related to Eddy Peck. Eddy was big in the float plane business down east.

Pretty impressive performance for 90hp. Doesn't use a lot of room. Curious to know if he's ever taken off with a passenger in the back.

Found some info on this thread the other day. I saw the vids and thought the place looked kinda familiar.

http://www.peckaero.com/
Look under aircraft forsale youll see the same champ and a link to the youtube vids.

I also found ths on google earth

Ive been to this place once before. At the end of the ditch the runway has a pretty good down grade, cool little spot though. And theres a little scrap yard at the end of the runway mostly floats but theres some small single engine planes to. The photo quality of google gets cut off right at the runway end so i couldnt get the scrap yard in.

From this video, it looks like he's able to easily get off when he has a headwind and a light plane...

I think it's a bit on the risky side of things, but I would not go so far as some of you to say it's outright stupid.

Sometime when you live in your own world of safety, you become comfortable with what you are used to, and you think that anyone who goes beyond your boundaries is an idiot.

Pot. Kettle. Black.
