Post by Beacon Final »

How soon can someone get training on a c-182 on floats in BC? I am sure the season starts alot sooner there.

Thanks

Should be pretty soon now. Only thing that may stop you is the weather they have been getting on the West coast. Call them and ask.

We've got a 182 that'll be on floats 24 May weekend and on.

The problem with putting the floatplanes in the water early here is risk of a big late-season dump of snow that would send the thing to the bottom. Late season snow weighs a ton!!

That's why you nail a plywood board on your window ledge and set your alarm every two hours!

I didn't think there was any water up there 'til April anyway.

Since they've dammed the rivers, the lake never freezes anymore. Pretty funny looking at old B&W photos of the sternwheelers stuck in the ice. Lots of snow in the hills this year, though. I'm guessing that when the water does really start to come, there's gonna be lots of it! Makes for some sketchy floatplane work for a month or so just because of the amount of wood (and docks) floating towards the turbines of the downsteam hydro project. YUM!!

Its a lovely part of the country where you are - I spent a few summers in Castlegar in the dim past and they were very good memories.
