JRCC Incident Logs - Help!

Post by Widow »

Does anyone know how the date/time feature works? For instance, this JRCC log indicates a start time of 2216Z, whereas we know the first call was made sometime shortly after 2pm (1400). They were also not tasking a Cormorant at 2231 ...

Can anyone help me understand what these times mean/how they work?

BTW the 1115L would sound right as 11.15am for when a communications search was begun.

Those times are Zulu time, or UTC. With daylight savings, the westcoast is currently UTC+7 so right now as I post this. Local time is 09:30, and also 16:31Z. Because the accident happened earlier in the year before daylight savings time, that call showing 2216Z was at 1416 local.

Hope that helps.

That explains it! And makes perfect sense! Thanks very much. That confirms that the first call received by JRCC telling them where the plane had been heard to crash was rec'd at 1639Z, or 8:39am, the day after the crash.
