You have to call Dell with the appropriate discount code. I guess the amount of the discount is a function of the system you purchase.

Do yourself a favor. Stay as far away from a Dell as you can. Invest in a Mac instead.

I've been shopping for a few months for a notebook, and I think I'm going to avoid Dell altogether.

I have an averatec 3120 for sale....this is an excellent laptop i have used on the road for the last 2 and a half years.....I have had not a single issue with it at all. I usually tweak my windows xp OS to get most of the crap out that you dont need and the result is a more stable less bloated system. Comes with lots and lots of programs....Office 2003, Nero 7, Adobe photoshop and loads of others....It has a 12 inch screen which is prefect for your flight bag. 256 RAM and 40 g hard drive....believe me I have babied this thing from day 1.... PM me for more into and detailed pics.

P.S. stay away from Dell anyways.....some good laptop brands are toshiba and sony or for a Mac...there I said it.

I've heard alot of Dell bashing over the years but what you need to keep in mind is that you get what you pay for...

I'm writing this on a 3 year old Dell Inspiron, it wasn't the base model and I paid a bit more to customize it to the standards that I was looking for. It's been banging around unprotected in my flight bag for two years now and it still works like it's brand new.

The other thing to watch is the warranties, Future shop and Sony will only cover manufactures defects where as with Dell if you drop it or spill coffee on it or entrust it with the ground handlers and they pack 800 lbs of bags on it and break it, it will be repaired or replaced. My friend completely destroyed the screen, keyboard and motherboard on his Dell laptop after it was 2 1/2 years old. Because he purchased a 3 year warranty he received a brand new (and faster) laptop in 2 days.

I bought the Inspiron 700m over three years ago and have never had a problem with it, no upgrades, small, got dropped, been hammered (both the computer and I) works like a charm. I would recommend this model for the flight bag for sure.

I've got an Inspiron aswell and gotta say its great. Fits nicely in the old flight bag. I use to have a Toshiba ... what an expensive piece of shit, and not to mention the shitty support when it does f*ck up. I'll stick with Dell .. they've done right by me.

Cheers,

I have both a MAC ibook and a Toshiba notebook. I prefer the MAC only because it doesn't have all the virus issues a PC is prone to. Having said that, a PC works better for Air Canada stuff like PBS for instance.

I have had my Toshiba for 3 years with no problems at all. I attribute that to my buddy you had me get rid of Norton Anti Virus right away and replace it with Avast.

I am using Avast 4.7 home edition. It is a free download and by far, the best virus software I have ever used.

http://www.avastsoft.com

The trick is getting rid of the pre installed Norton Anti Virus. It roots itself deep into your registry so simply selecting "remove program" will not get rid of all of it. That in itself is a big enough reason for me to never have it installed on my computer. That is one thing I don't like about PC. So often you have to take it with a bunch of pre installed crap that they could never sell otherwise.

Thanks I will check it out, I have been running the free edition of AVG and it seems pretty good, just seeing what else is out there.
Depending on the price I may even buy the "pay" version.

As for the original topic of this thread: I have a Dell Inspiron 5100, that I customized when I purchased it, its just over 3 years old and has never missed a beat.
