Should Jazz hire college grads ?
I realize this probably will not change anything. I also think the outcome of this poll will be obvious. However I am wondering what the actual percentage versus yes and no will be.

No, there isn't a shortage of pilots right NOW. The reason they have started this program now is to test whether they can successfully hire out of college because they predict that in a few years there will be a shortage.
One theory I've heard is that if you hire someone with this low time, they won't have the time to move on for several years. But as someone pointed out to me, that if Jazz finds it necessary to hire such low time people, isn't it likely WestJet might find it just as necessary and still cherry pick pilots from Jazz? It's not finding pilots that is the problem, it's retention (unless you're a bean counter). That's the problem now, and still likely to be that way in the future.

Simple Economics. The only time there is a shortage is when the price of a good (in this case pilots) falls below the equilibrium price. In this case, Jazz wants to keep the price of pilots low, and thus attempts to alleviate the so called "shortage" by artificially increasing the pilot supply using under qualified people.
If the wages go up, there won't be a shortage anymore.

Westjet won't have the problem cause Westjet pays!!! So does AC mainline eventually!!!! Jazz does not!!!
If Jazz does not pay... then eventually it is just a matter of time before AC and WJ are added to the list. If I recall it was not that long ago that the base salary at WJ was pretty low, in fact it was the stock options that were used to augment a pilot's income. Was it not around the time that AC geared up it's hiring scheme that WJ modified it's pay system?
As for AC... there is much talk about fleet renewal... seems I have heard the Airbus Narrow Body fleet will eventually be replaced by the likes of the E190, so where does that leave the pay scale??? On the low end?
Everywhere you look, pay and benefits are being taken from the "grunts" meanwhile the "decision makers" walk away with the biggest piece of the compensation pie!
